months are generally I i quiet times among the fraternal socle1 ty people that is there is no great amount of lodge work done and the S meetings are not so well attended as I I during the inter season There is however a good deal of what might be termed outdoor work going on at the present time and the meeetings of the governing bodies of the different orders are either in progress or in contemplation con-templation Most of the orders have annual summer excursions in which the members and their friends participate partici-pate and these too are receiving consideration con-sideration at the present season I Masonic I j The great meeting of the Mystic Shriners wall be held in Denver next month and a large delegation of Salt Lakers will attend The regular blue lodge meetings are still held but next month the usual summer recess will commence during which only special meetings for work will be called I i i IOOF I j The I O O F annual excursion takes place on Thursday next to Sal jtaJr I This will be the chief event of 4 the week at that beautiful resort and it is expected that those who profess devotion to the three links and their iriends by thousands will take part in the excursion i The day will be devoted to the usual usu-al sports and amusements which Sal tair affords Bathing boating dancing danc-ing etc and In addition there will he vocal and instrument music and good speaking An excelleht programme has been prepared and a good time is assured to all who attend During the past week the subordinate lodges held their usual meetings and a fair amount of business was transacted i Most of the lodges had degree work and a number of applications were received re-ceived from parties wishing to join the order The I O O F is becoming more and more popular all the time and is spreading out its roots in all directions direc-tions S tons I Pytliians I j The event of the past week in Pythi an circles was the meeting of the grand lodge of the jurisdiction The session commenced on Monday and ended on Thursday I was very prolific pro-lific of good to the order A vast lfc gOd I amount of business relating to the international in-ternational economy of the organization organiza-tion was transacted and intermingled with business was a judicious amount of recreation and social enjoyment The banquet at the Templeton hotel last Monday evening was a most elegant ele-gant and recherche function and was attended by the creme de la creme of the jurisdiction The banquet was given in honor of Supreme Chancellor W W Blackwell who came here specially ally to attend the meeting of the grand lodge Mr Blackwell is a cultured and elegant gentleman and an Indefatigable worker in the Pythian cause He has occupied the exalted position of supreme su-preme chancellor for about eighteen months and his successor will be elected elect-ed at the meeting of the supreme lodge in Washington D C next August During his term of office he has visited nearly every grand lodge in the country and given them valuable assistance and gven Instructions in Pythianism and how the i cause can be advanced in each iurisdic i tionThe The grand lodge before its adjournment S ment elected a splendid set of officers for the ensuing year and there is no doubt the Pythian banner will be carried car-ried high and gloriously during their term of office in this jurisdiction j The session was concluded with a grand excursion to Saltair last Thursday Thurs-day which proved a pleasant very and profitable event and was participated in by many outsiders as well outsider wel as members mem-bers of the order of all ranks The subordinate lodges owing to the grand lodge meeting lasting four days of the week did not hold their usual conclaves but will this week meet as usual and do double work I Pythian Sisters The Pythian sisters are as active as usual in the cause and contributed greatly to the entertainment of the grand lodge members during their stay in the city The two temples Ivy and Mizpah are pursuing their charitable works with as much vigor as usual and are amsloramg the condition of many poor and afflicted brethren and sisters AOUW I The Ancient Order of United Workmen Work-men is forging ahead and keeps well to the front in the race Both Salt Lake Valley and Temple lodges held their usual I meeting last week in their hal in the Gladstone building and transacted trans-acted the regular routine work j Several applications for membership I were received and reported to the proper committees A considerable amount of degree work is on the list lst for ths week I I Ancient Order Foresters 1 I I This society is rapidly coming to the front and its power for go dis being felt in this community Another court I I was instituted Thursday evening last with thirtynine charter members and it was named Court Temple No I 84G9 9There I I There are now seven courts in the I territory located as follows Two in Ogden one In Logan one in Preston and three in Salt Lake W A Peabody deputy supreme chief ranger at large has been working with a will for about three months and before be-fore he leaves for California he will institute three more courts and then a grand court will be organized inS S Utah I i I I The objects of the society are to advance I ad-vance the moral and social welfare of I I its members to assist each other in the hour of distress and to point out to a lost or weary traveler the paths that lead to success and happiness in journeying through the forest of life Court ZIon No 8422 had a well attended I at-tended meeting at Gladstone hall Friday Fri-day evening A number of Interesting features wee introduced for the entertainment en-tertainment of the members and wel I I fare of the order The election of officers will take place
