Show THE UTAH FAIR 1 Grand Opening at 12 Oclock Noon Today The Vprlons Departments Are Fall and Space Was at aPreminm Ye terday Ilia Programme Everything will be in readiness at noon today for the opening of the greatest fair Utah has ever had In decorations and display the exhibitions will far excel anything in the past and the general exhibit ex-hibit will be one of surprise to the visitors Bunting flags and colors wave in every part of the building and the artists hand is manifest in every corner Last night up to a late hour A small army was at workreceiving and arranging the exhibits The intenor of the main building has been most beautifully decorated under the immediate supervision of Herman Bam I berger Thousands of yards of bunting and an untold amount of tissue and other kinds of paper of bright colors have been use in making mak-ing an almost endless variety of novel and I pleasing designs From a magnificent I i centerpiece in the shape of a balloon suspended sus-pended from the highest point in the middle mid-dle of the main apartment red white and blue streamers extend to all of the walls This ornament is numerously studded with incandescent lights and when the full force of the electrio current is turned on the spectacle will be one of dazzling splendor At 830 oclock last night a total of 1350 entries had been made exclusive of machinery ma-chinery and imphments and the secretary and his assistants Messrs Pypar and Ward Pack were as busy as bees receiving receiv-ing applications In the stock department hundreds of wouldbe exhibitors have been turned away for lack of space THE EDUCATIONAL EXHIBIT will be very large The agricultural college col-lege exhibit under the superintendence of Dr Park will this year occupy more space than was devoted to the whole educational department last year Many of the city and county schools will be well represented and there is a very interesting collection of native work from the South Sea islands THE ART EXHIBIT will do more than maintain the high order of excellence it achieved in previous years Almost all the Utah artists will be repre sentod The painted china is looming up In grand style although it was rather backward at first For the MINERALS a large addition has been built on to the east of the south wing and there will be a big display in this department I THE AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT will be better represented this year than ever before both as regards quality and quantity In the grounds there is a big collection of machinery and implements every house in he city in the trade being well represented repre-sented THE LIVE STOCK exhibit will be the best ever seen in Utah Many fine breeds of horses cattle sheep hogs and other animals are on the entry rolls and many more were refused for want of space Tile following is the programme for tbe opening today and for the afternoon and evening i Opsning exercises s clock noon as follows iirst Music by Logan baad SecondPrayer by kiev W M Lane ihinl Address bythe governor FourthFormal declaration the opening ot the fair by the prtsldent of the Deseret Agricultural Agri-cultural and Manufacturing society Mr Curtis P Mason FifthMusic 2 p mGrand exhibition of the Pompier Life Saving crew 8 pmHepltitfon of life saving exhibition with represents of conflagration and lifesaving life-saving drill Master Hooker bon of the drillmaster drill-master will appearin each performance The admission fee is 50 cents No visitors will be admitted at the east gate the north and west gates only will be used |
