Show AT THE THEATJIB iJ J i The Inslgn Draws a Mammoth House Kellys Sale I has been many moons since the Salt Lake theatre had such an audience as was present last evening The pit and the orchestra were packed while the galleries were simply uncomfortable Of thn play little need be said save that i gave the best of satisfaction to the big audience It is superbly mounted4and thoro is not ono moment rom the first curtain until thQ last that is not full of intense interest The Ensign has not been inaptly termed A Held by the Enemy on Sea and there are several scenes tbat remind one of Gillettes famous war story Ono thing of especial interest to Salt lakers last evening waD the reappearance of Logan Paul au oldtime Salt Laker but who has not trod the boards in this city for many years From both a spectacular and historical standpoint The Ensign is a success and tho strong vein of patriotism that runs through it evokes the wildest enthusiasm ThoEnslgn goes again this evening and closesthe soon tomorrow night There will be no matinea < 0 I L at Hereafter 8 the curtain will rise promptly jltfEE OF DUBLIN The attraction at tbe theatre next Thursday Thurs-day Friday and Saturday will be John T Kelly a clever impersonator of Irish character In his new comedy McFee of Dublin The new play was written by Charles T Vincent and Mr Kelly and this will be its first presentation in this city The piece has been highly spoken of i by the eastern press and Mr Kelly is I credited with making the biggest kind of a I hit in the title role His supporting company tte supportng pany is an excellent one including Florrle West Adelaide Randall and many others A number of new songs and taking specialties I spec-ialties will be introduced during the action of the play The scenery and costumes I are all new and the best that money can produce I The sale opens this morning at 10 oclock I THE CHORAL I The Choral society bad full and enthusiastic enthus-iastic meeting in old Odd Fellows hal last evening and Professor Stephens was much pleased at the attendance and tho rehersal of Light of Asia Professor Radcllff was elected as the accompanist of the society The committee on resolutions appointed at last meeting on tbe death of P S Gilmore Gil-more reported that they had sent 1 beautiful beauti-ful floral design with an appropriatite message mes-sage of sympathy to the family of the deceased and with the following resolutions which were read and ordered to be spread on the minutes min-utes of the society and to be published in Salt Lake papers and also sent with the floral emblem Quiet a number of new members passed an examination The president announced that additional altas were needed The Choral society rehersal for the Columbian anniversary will take placo next Monday night and also Friday night with the Tabernacle chorus instead of Tuesday nest next Below are tho resolutions Whereas It has pleased the Divine Author of all music to call from earth and among men the world renowned bandmaster and musical director di-rector Patrick Sarsfleld Gllmore and Whereas Wo the Salt Lake Choral society are desirous of giving expression pf his worth In life and our loss in his death therefore be it Resolved that In Mr Gilmore we recognize ho greatest bandmaster and one among the foremost musicians and composers the world has ever known That to him more than any I other was due the honor of popularizing our national na-tional airs both In the United States and in foreign for-eign countries That he instead of trying to change public sentiment not only went with it but led it and educated and elevated it That 10 was affable to all and especially courteous to those of his profession Resolved That In his death we recognize an irreparable loss not only to the musical profession profes-sion but to all lovers of music That we feel that his death was untimely depriving our nation na-tion of his services at the coming celebration and this society of his expected visit to our citylhat hat we mourn with all lovers of music our loss and condole with his family in their great affliction That these resolutions be spread on the records of this society and a copy thereof sent to the bereaved family and published in the daily papers of Salt Lake city |
