Show I TEE POLITICAL BALL It Is ROlling Rolling Rolling and in Fine Style lion John T Oalne and Walderaar YanCotfc peak on Tariff and CongressiOnal Congres-sional llcKislatlon Correspondence of THE HERALD The past week has been one of interest and en tertammont for the people of our prosperous and enterprising little town Thursday night we were honored with a visit from Hon John T Caine and W Van Cott esq both of whom spoke to a large and enthusiastic audience at the Social hall upon the Issues of the day giving Democratic Demo-cratic logic and common sense against Republican I Re-publican sophistry and burlesque of the night before Mr Van Cott spoke on the subject of the tariff while Mr Caine devoted de-voted his time In refuting false statements made by Republican orators in relation to Democrats in Congress their attitude towards Utah etc Mr Cannon came in for his share rebuke from this worthy Democratic orator One of his Cannons Can-nons most glaring falsehoods was that the EdmundsTucker bill was a Democratic measure formulated and brought up for passage t > y a Democrat He spent a good deal of time in explaining what would have been the effect of said bill had it become a law The manner in which Mr Caine exposed the young upstarts ignorance igno-rance in relation to this and other matters was a caution The truth is that Mr Cannon does not know half so much as his Republican admirers think he does He makes a great noise wnen he explodes ex-plodes of course as all cannons do but it is a very empty noise His logic is made j I 1 of funny little stories all linked together which he has managed to learn by heart and tells in rather a pleasing manner He hasnt learned any too many however as he is obliged to tell the same ones every time he says anything Mr Cannons entertainment en-tertainment so far as SaUna is concerned was a great big storyfarce very instructive instruct-ive and amusing for people who never read or think of themselves HAH SALINA Oct 2 POLITICS SANPETE County Convention Nominates Officers and Delegates Rousing Meeting Correspondence of THE HERALD The Democrats of Sanpete held their county convention last Saturday at Ephraim and nominated county officers to be voted for in November next and also appointed twentythree delegates to attend the territorial convention Provo N C Lund of Mt Pleasant was elected chair man and JohnS Blame of Spnne City secretary After tbe usual preliminary business the convention proceeded to nominate nomi-nate the following excellent ticket For Selectmen C Sorenson of Gun nison Peter Sundwall of Purview and George F Morley of Moroni For County ClerkJohn Reid of Moroni For AssessorC W Peterson of Eph raim For CollectorFerdinand Erickson of Mt Pleasant For Aaornei W K Reid of Manti For RecorderJohnS BlaIne of Spring City For SheriffJames Burns of Manti Por SurveyorJohn H Hougard of Manti For TreasurerGeorge Christensen of Mt Pleasant For Coroner W H Olsten of Eph raim All the nominations were made unanimous unani-mous For Delegates to ProvoW K Reid W J Hosford W J B Stacey Peter Greaves sen Peter Greaves jr J P Christensen Lewis Swenson Aaron Hardy jr Andrew A Leslie William William Wolsey E J Conrad E A Bill ington Hans Neilson H H Spencer O B Berglund William Metcalf George Peacock W W Woodrmtr Ferdinand Er ickson N G Rolph Swen O Neilson Owen Sanderson Ward Stevenson All the precinct delegates remained in Epbraim and joined the grand procession in the evening beaded by the Hon John T Caine Waldermar Van Cott and A T Schroeder of Salt Lake The rally was held in tbe new school house but it was too small to accommodate the great crowd gathered there and many had to go home Messrs Van Cott and Caine were the speakers of the evening The former confined con-fined his remarks to the tariff while Mr Caine spoke of the record made by the Republican party with reference to the people of Utah The great enthusiasm manifested indicated that the speaker made a good impression MJLSTI Oct 3 1892 ORGAN COUNTY DEMOCRACY The Democrats of Morgan county met in convention October 1 192 and elected the following delegates to the Teritorial Democratic Demo-cratic convention to be held in Provo the 5th inst S Francis John Thurston John Hopkin John Green and Joseph Waldron alternates James Durrant and Andrew Rasmnssen A county central committee and committee on finance were also elected There was a full representation from the several precincts and all expressed their assurance of carrying the county with a larger majority than one year ago In the evening we had a grand enthusiastic enthusias-tic meeting in Simomns hall where about 400 of our citizens listened to Prof J H Paul deliver one of his telling speeches on the tariff The meetine gave the very best attention and showed their appreciation of the great principles of Democracy by frequent fre-quent hearty applause |
