Show AT AMERICAN FORK A District from Which Millions Have Been Taken Various Good Properties That Are Now Idle but from Which Much Good Money Can Be Made American Fork canyon has been a big producer of minerals in years past and will again be heard from just as soon as the metals near a better price No shipments ship-ments have been made during the year to s eak of but there was considerable development de-velopment work It is notby any means a poor mans camp as save in very rare instances the veins lay quite deep and capital is therefore one of the prime necessities ne-cessities The prospects in the camp show pay assays as-says ranging from Y10 to 4100 in silver and 23 to 40 per cent lead THE OLD MILLER A brief historical note of the mines tells us that the first one of any importance import-ance was discovered in August 1570 and patented on the 18th day of that month by a man named Alex Miller A Sew York company took hold and did considerable consid-erable development work and about two years later built a railroad to their claims connecting with the Utah Southern now Union Pacific This road only ran for a period of three or four years and when this company gave up working their claims all remunerative business came to an end and the road was removed to Spanish Fork canyon The old Miller is looking up again and it is confidently hoped good ore will again come from this property It has produced over a million of dollars in past years THE WILD DUTCHMAN is one of the original mines It was discovered dis-covered about the same time as the Miller having been patented the 31st of August 1870 The property has been running in u desultory way until last year when it was purchased by the American Fork Consolidated Gold and Silver Mining company com-pany which commenced operations on a large scale They have erected a large concentrator The company is composed of a party of capitalists from Cleveland Assays show ten ounces of silver and 46 per cent lead with a rood large body of ore to work on THE PITTSBURGH has a large body of low grade ore The mine has been leased this past year and it is expected that operations on a large scale would be made but for some unaccountable un-accountable reason silence has reigned this year THE TREASURE This mine has more work done in the way of development than any other on the hill and shows up about the best of any They have run one tunnel about three hundred feet and another about five hundred hun-dred feet The shaft is down 175 feet This ore assays 100 ounces in silver and 40 percent per-cent in lead With all the work done they have not yet struck paying quantities quanti-ties but are enthusiastic over the showing show-ing and have just struck a much larger vein The owners of the Treasure have incorporated with exclusive American Fork capital electing James Chipman president and manager and W S Chip man secretary THE MILKMAID Developments here show a 16inch vein of good ore assaying 26 ounces silver and 45 per cent lead An incline shaft has been run about one hundred and fifty feet but struck large volumes of water that stopped work and necessitated an immense im-mense drain tunnel about four hundred and fifty feet which is now completed in fifty feet and when completed operations will be resumed They have shipped about three hundred tons and early in the spring a large force of men will beput on and a concentrator built THE NORTH STAR is owned by H W Owen of Salt Lake and others They have shipped about 200 tons of good ore which assayed 70 ounces silver and 50 per cent in lead The development de-velopment work on this shows up well A shaft has been sunk about fifty and a tunnel about fifty feet THE ONTARIO is a good mine showing large bodies of ore that assay 16 ounces silver and 35 percent per-cent lead A shaft 160 feet in depth shows ore all the waya vein ranging from four to sixteen inches wide a tunnel tun-nel about seventyfive feet and some drifting drift-ing THE SILVER BELL The Silver Bell is a mine owned by Colonel Col-onel Shaughnesey of Salt Lake It has shipped considerable high grade ore and has mined hundreds of tons that is lying on the dump waiting for a concentrator or leaching works This valuable property prop-erty ban been idle for some time for reasons best known to the owners THE LONE PINE is a piece of property owned by Messrs E H Bolley R E Hunter ana Charles McCarthy A sixtyfivefoot tunnel shows ore that assays about SS ounces of silver and 45 yer cent lead They have run an incline in about fortyfive feet and another tunnel 500 feet They have had from two to five men employed all summer THE CORNUCOPIA is owned by T D Caine of Omaha and Herbert Bate of American Fork This property shows the gratifying assay of 212 ounces silver and 40 per cent lead Extensive Ex-tensive preparations are being made for early work in the snruig It is really at present only a suifi > l prospect and were it not so rich and the prospects so good for improvement the people of American Fork would not be so enthusiastic as they are at this writing MANV OTHERS There are hundreds of small prospects that show up remarkably well and on which considerable work will be done during the coming year Much may be expected in a few years of the mines of American Fork |
