Show HOMESTEAD ENTRIES ALLOWED A Land Office Order of Special Interest to Camp Floj Settlers The following order which is of special interest to settlers on the Camp Floyd or Fort Crittenden military reservation has been received at the land office DEPAHTJ1EM OF THE INTFRIOB GENERAL LAND OFFICE j VASHIJICTOH D C rec 12 1892 Register and Receiver Salt Lake City Utah UKMLEMEI The Fort Crittenden military reservation was transferred to the custody of the interior department July 221SS4 for disposal dis-posal under tho act of July 5 1834 23 stat 103 rJo improvements appear to have been transferred trans-ferred You will observe that the act of July 5 1SS1 provides that uny settler who was in actual occupation of any portion of any such reservations reserva-tions abandoned military reservations prior to the location of such reservation or settled hereon prior to Jan 1 1884 In good faith for the purpose of securing a home and of entering the same under the general laws and has continued con-tinued in such occupation to the present time and is by law entitled to make homestead entry shall be entitled to enter the land so occupied oc-cupied not to exceed 1C3 acres ia a body according ac-cording to the government surveys and subdi visions porvided further that said lands were subject to entry under the public laws at the time of their withdrawal The lands of the reservation having been surveyed homestead entries may be allowed in accordance with tho provision quoted In allowing such entries you will be guided by tho decisions in the cases of Reynolds vs Cole 5 L D 555 and Connelly vs Bpyd 10 L D 4b9 ih jsatc jsa ftidi rl is1 The lands not falling within the provision quoted will in the absence of further legislation legisla-tion looking to their disposal be appraised in due time and you will be further instructed in regard thereto Very respectfully M M ROSE Assistant Commissioner |
