Hfcber City Mr Jones is charged with homicide he having it is alleged shot Dick Thornton a colored exsoldJer near Fort Duchesne a few days ago The facts as gleaned from the ofiicer are about as follows Mr Jones was at the Johnson saloon on the strip near Fort Duchesne and was intoxicated Thornton and others wcie sittiu around a card table when Jones came into the room having hav-ing in his hanfva revolver and while twirling It on ala finger it was discharged dis-charged find the bullet hit Thornton in the forehead a little above and between be-tween the eyes Thorntons head fell forward on the table and he immediately immedi-ately ocpired Jones gave himself up v > to the officers at the Fort and was Jcked up in the guard house Shortly fl > er the tragedy Sheriff Searle Joolc Jones in custody and removed him to Vernal where iho had his preliminary hearing and was bound over to await the action of the grand jury in the sum of 1000 Jones was met at the depot here last evening by his father and brothers from Heber City and a few of his friends They went before Clerk Beas ley of the district court and having Slven bonds in the required sum war wa-r released from custody T Sheriff Searle also reports that the Indian commissioners appointed by the secretary of the interior were expect ex-pect d to arrive at Price station last night Conveyances are awaiting them there ready to transport them direct to the agency It is reported that runners were sent to the Colorado Utes during the late invasion to the Indians at Uintah asking their support in case of trouble but the Utah Indians refused the re O quest This shows that the TJlntah Indians In-dians are depiTOUs of peace and arc perfectly willing that the reservation should be opened If they were not they would undoubtedly have taken this opportunity to begin hostilities In Commissioner Dudleys court yesterday Thomas G Webber assignee for S S Jones Co asked to recover 120 against P H BeasJey on a promissory promis-sory note and forgoods and merchandise merchan-dise furnished A jury trial was demanded de-manded and the jury after hearing the evidence could not agree upon u verdict Mr Beasleys counter claim against S S Jones Co asked 270 for ties furnished S S Jones Co The case will be retried In the same court George Jaggers is sueing Andrew Eggertson for 10 alleged al-leged to be due on a horse trade The First district court held no session ses-sion yesterday Today Judge King granted a divorce to Zeraida Horton The defendant E J Horton was ordered to pay the plaintiff 520 per month alimony 520 attorneys fees and the costs of the action Cruelty and habitual drunkenness were the grounds sued upon Orders were made In three other civil cases County Collector Openshaw yesterday began the sale of property for delinquent delin-quent taxes The delinquency is quite large this year and no doubt there will be a great amount of property sold Four deputies are in different parts of the county residents asked that their city taxes for this year be remitted referred to the committee on finance Several bills were presened for payment and allowed The city marshal was instructed to enforce the ordinances of the city and arrest those p rties who are tearing up the streets and leaving obstructions on the main thoroughfares This TTas meant to apply to the company that is removing the Provo City railway In tearing up the track the streets were left in a very dangerous condition and a number of oars were left standing In the middle of the street near the depot TWo young fellows Charles Boren and Steve Jones by name were arrested ar-rested on Monday for petit larceny muskrat skins being the property stolen Boren pleaded guilty before Justice Wedgwood and was fined 25 Steve Jones has following actions were filed with Clerk Beasley yesterday R A Deal G P Thompson and A C Wilson filed a complaint against L L Dalton and E J Edwards to recover S250 due on a promissory note secured by mortgage and interest on the note to date J W N Whiteootton is attorney for the plaintiff In the complaint of James Thompson Thomp-son against Nephi Hanson Thompson alleges that he and the defendant entered en-tered into a partnership under the firm name of Hanson Co and afterward after-ward the partnership was dissolved Plaintiff asks that an accounting betaken be-taken of the dealings and transactions of the firm and that the property be sold to pay the debts and liabilities of the partnership It Is alleged that Hanson Han-son retained 1500 of the firms assets at the time of the dissolution without the knowledge of the plaintiff and with the intention of defrauding Thompson out of his interest in the partnership property Kellogg Corfman are attorneys at-torneys for plaintiff Pleads Guilty Lars Jacobsen pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful cohabitation before Commissioner Dudley last evening and was bound over in the sum of 150 to await sentence |
