Show 100 Years Henrietta Odile Hatch Price of Farmington will celebrate her 100th birthday on Aug. 15. She was born Aug. 15, 1881 in Vernal. Lit., the daughter of Jeremiah and Henrietta A Clark Hatch. JEREMIAH HATCH was sent by Brigham Young to the Ashley Valley in 1878 as the Indian agent. He had great influence in-fluence with the Indians and helped minimize the Meeker, Colo, 'massacre of 1879. His patience and influence caused the Indians to return to their reservation. EARLY IN 1879 he built a fort, w here the post office now stands, and in 1882 the pioneers left the fort and moved back into their cabins. It was during this time, 1881. that Odile was born. Jeremiah Hatch spoke several sev-eral Indian dialects and was called Uncle Jerry by the Indians. Indi-ans. As a result, the settlement which started as Ashley Center, Cen-ter, became know n as Jericho, then Hatchtown, then Vernal. JEREMIAH had three wives and 30 children. Odile's mother was the daughter of Israel J. Clark. Odile Hatch married Stephen H. Price and they had ten children. Stephen Price HENRIETTA PRICE died in the Los Angeles, Calif, area in 1963. She has numerous numer-ous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. ODILE WAS born into the life of a pioneer and is a good influence on those who know her. She has told many stories of the Indians visiting her home and the different way of life she was accustomed to. She said she had danced with Butch Cassidy when they all lived in Vernal, kj |
