Show Officials Favor Mobile Home Park Com. Ernest Lberhard said, in total support of the proposal. Agreeing. Com. Glen Saunders Saun-ders said. "I wish the communities com-munities would back off and let these developments go in." THE ECONOMY "demands" "de-mands" that mobile home parks be allowed to exist "for the benefit of the young people," peo-ple," Com. Harry Gerlach said. "I'm for the concept." Com. Gerlach argued that utility rates currently controlled con-trolled by larger park ownersshould own-ersshould be paid by the mobile home owners, just as regular property owners pay directly to utility companies. He said rising utility rates in the parks are a constant source of complaints from park inhabitants. in-habitants. COUNTY planning director Harold Tippetts commented that at present, the county does not have a specific mobile home ordinance, or any ordinance ordi-nance relating to mobile home parks. He added that, for most communities, mobile home parks have been "a saving point" for young people with an interest in obtaining housing. COM. EBERHARD encouraged encour-aged Mr. Fadel to continue his study to determine specific needs for the development. ' Fadel said if the county updates up-dates its mobile home ordinances ordi-nances the surrounding cities may act accordingly. THE DAVIS County Planning Plan-ning Commission has been advised to review the ordinances ordi-nances and to encourage West Bountiful officials to annex the 30-acre plot. By MARK D. MICKELSEN FARMINGTON The Davis County Commission has come out in favor of a proposed prop-osed 200-unit mobile home park between West Bountiful and Centerville, citing a shortage shor-tage of low-cost housing units for younger couples and the elderly as one reason behind their decision. THE COMMISSION Tuesday Tues-day unanimously endorsed developer de-veloper George Fadel's plans for a 30-acre mobile home village vil-lage in an area north of West Bountiful and just south of the Centerville city limits. The West Bountiful City Council recently voted against annexing the ground into the community, claiming there would be a noticeable increase in traffic, and thus, an increase in danger for neighborhood children. "THEY (COUNCIL) fear for the lives of their children." Mr. Fadel told commissioners, but said there is already a church and a school in the vicinity where, depending on the day of the week, the traffic is already a problem. Development of the mobile home park "shouldn't be considered cons-idered a big traffic problem that they (residents) will have lodeal with." he added. " That should be considered a minimal minim-al consequence." MR. FADEL explained that mobile home parks have traditionally tradi-tionally gotten a bad name due to poor organization and unkempt un-kempt facilities. He noted, however, that developers working on plans for the proposed prop-osed park want to make the development "exceptionally attractive." The "main idea" of the development, de-velopment, according to Fadel, is to "make available a mobile home park w hich there appears to be a scanty supply of" in south Davis County. "Mobile home parks have many more merits than some of the other developments we talk about." he said. THE PROBLEM is. West Bountiful is not convinced that the park should be allowed. Fadel continued. He said if municipalities are going to adopt a position that there is no more room for mobile home parks "the county is all that's left." "To some extent." Fadel told commissioners, condominiums condomi-niums are consolidating residential re-sidential areas "but they are expensive." HE PREDICTED that if cities continue tc shy away from the mobile lome park idea, eventually st te and federal fed-eral government oificials will be forced to speak out against land discrimination. Fadel urged the commission to come out in support of the park, believing that younger couples seeking housing will rune a better start in the parks and at a lesser cost. "lean see ver few disadvantages." he said. "I THINK we've just got to open our eyes and make some kind of accommodation for thoc young people who are starting out, and the elderly," |
