Show j C LORADO RlN RPLACERS 1 Good Development Work Being Done There GASS RITE TALKS GOLDScy THE PROSPECTS ARE BRIGHTER f THAX EVER BEFORE Big Deals Arc Being 3Iade In the Henry Mountain Properties One I Hundred Men Xow at Work on the Colorado River How Gold is J Trented Cass J3ite gruff and good natured arrived in the city yesterday from Dandy Crossing and was seen by a Herald reporter at the Walker lastth evening Mr Bites object in visiting Salt Lake is to make arrangements for an outfit which he will take back to the Colorado river where it will bq utilized in the development of gold placer claims under the control of Mr Hite Cass Hite knows more about the gold placers on the Colorado and the gold lodes in the Henry mountains than any other man lIe discovered the Colorado Colo-rado river placers twelve years ago and has since explored every foot of that picturesque and beautiful stream He was asked to give a statement of the true condition of the Colorado river riv-er and Henry mountain districts and in a pleasant I half hours conversation I gave the first good news that has reached Salt Lake from those localities locali-ties since the great excitement died out ONE HUNDRED MEN EMPLOYED There are now 100 men at work on the Colorado river placers said Mr I Hite a greater number than during I any winter since the placers were discovered dis-covered in iSiS The gold is being treated by several processes principally principal-ly smill appliances such as the rocker rock-er the snipe the rocker sluice box and I other sluice appliances GOOD WAGES The lowest that anybody is making is S3 or 4 per day and from that as I high as 510 and 12 per day is made A Sto amalgamating and hydraulic plant has been put la the Beaver country near the Rob Roy district The mail route between Green River and Dandy Crossing is still in opera all other routes hae been tion but JUi v abandoned We get semiweekly man at Dandy Crossing THE HENRY MOUNTAINS How are developments in the Henry Mountains lnnttne8 Henry Mountains there areas are-as many as six or seven good paying properties There are a number of others which it will take time to develop de-velop I have every confidence myself in the goldbearing nature of the Henry Mountain lodes As in many other camps it will take reveral years to i thoroughly develop the ctual value ot s the gold lodes in the Henrys I What precious metal exists In the i j Colorado river placers and the Henry I Mountain lodes is strictly gold there I being neither lead or silver in the Henry Mountains The copper deposits I depos-its which are isolated and unavailable because of lack of transportation facilities 1 fa-cilities while showing up rich on the i surface and in big bodies will require i I more development work to ascertain I their actual value I BIG HENRY MOUNTAIN DEALS DEALSL That country is ferruginous iron clay predominating on the surface The only metal that can be relied on to pay for working is the gold I came up to Green River with a Mr Markham I of Denver who has secured control of I a property on Granite creek three miles north of the Bromide the bonanza of the Henrys The new property has been turnig out 70 per ton ore and ought to be a good investment for the new syndicate The Bromide mine will i also probably be sold to a syndicate There have been a number of Colorado people down in that country this winter looking for gold properties A GREAT FUTURE The future of the Colorado river sold placers is simply grand in pros 1 j > flts from Dandy Crossing to Lees frn about 100 miles there are approximately ap-proximately 100000000 cubic yards o f available placer beds with abundan water running at their base that wil yield an average of 75 cents per cubic yard The serious drawback connected I witli the whole proposition is the dif ficuUfr irt elevating the water sufficiently suf-ficiently to facilitate sluicing The precipitous walls between bar preclude the use of the ordinary gravity ditch The power in the river to b a derived from its rapids is the fines power In the world and that power will be utilized for elevating the water on the bars THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PROCESS It is much the same proposition that exists on Snake river Idaho with thi difference the fine gold in Snake rive takes about 700 colors to 1 cent in gold 1 On the Colorado the average is abou 100 colors to a cent The easiest process I pro-cess so far tested is the Grizzly and Burlap A sevenounce Barlap is the standard grade With that process the finest river gold can be saved as easii y i as if the gold existed in ounce slug By that process the goldbearing blac sand and goad concentrates can b a treated with cyonide for about 70 cents per ton of concentrates and all the gold obtained While there has not a S yet been any successful operations o n a large scale I am fully convinced tha what successfully operates on a ama scale will boon be done on a very largi scaleTHE THE GREAT GLEN CANYON The Great Glen canyon of the Cole rado river has simply performed the functions of a mlght sluce box Tn 0 ayes have deposited those gold an d bia > ik sand concentrates in immens bodies to be reduced by the place r miner of today They cannot be ex hausted In seventyfive years For a fine gold placer camp it has no equa on the face of the earth as far as known today I return to that camp with more confidence and respect for its possibili ties than at any time since its dis covery twelve years ago |
