Show WORK OF THE CLTJBJS IIEETING OF LA COTERIE AT THE JUNCTION CITY Questions Considered at the Meeting of the Ladies Literary Club Statement From the Needlework Guild Mrs Ransford Sm th entertained La Coterie Tuesday October 30 The president Mrs Corlew called the meeting to order at 3 oclock and announced the first paper by Mrs Bannister on the Renaissance This was a most complete resume of art and letters as they appeared rejuvenated re-juvenated in the sixteenth century and was one of the finest papers ever given before the Coterie I Mrs Corlew followed with a clear and comprehensive report of the nature na-ture of college settlements and the noble no-ble work they are doing among the poor and laboring people of large cities I Chicago has five of these settlements settle-ments in the quarters populated by the workingsometimes criminal classes Hull house is probably the most influential and best known of these in the United States Mrs jorlew was abundantly supplied with literature and data relating to this subject and made the theme very interesting After the discussion of this paper had ceased Mrs Smith served dainty and delicious refreshments which were greatly appreciated by all present pres-ent Miss Schausenbach then gave her report as critic and an afternoon most enjoyably and profitably spent cameto an end |
