Show A GREAT BLAZE Big Property Loss in Indianapolis Yesterday Indianapolis Nov BThe most disastrous disas-trous fire in this city for several years broke out shortly after 3 oclock this morning in a building owned and occupied oc-cupied by the Indianapolis Natural Gas company on South Pennsylvania and Maryland streets The fire jumped to the Indiana Medical college and the handsome Scottish Rite building immediately im-mediately north The last building was the largest of the kindIn the country its original cost being 100000 Recently Re-cently 25000 improvements had been made By 5 oclock three buildings were a smouldering pile of debris Fireman Samuel Muir fell from the third floor of the Scottish building seriously injured Fire Chief Webster was injured by falling bricks The gas companys loss is GO000 insurance 26 000 The Medical college loss is S000 fully insured The Scottish Rite loss is S100000 with an insurance of about 75000 Among the valuable Masonic matter destroyed in the Scottish Rite building were the Hacker library the finest in the world and the Masonic collection of one thousand photographs Twenty thousand dollars damage was done to surrounding property There were eighteen pickled bodies in the Medical college all of which were cremated |
