Show I MIXING OPERATIONS IN MILLARD Great Showing MadwBy the Detroit District The Millard County Blade gives the following interesting mining news of the south country Twenty thousand pounds of Utah ore from Fish Springs was unloaded by H S Cahoon at Oasis on Friday writes from Learning Chris Overson rtes Leaming ton that work on the Ibex smelter site is progressing finely Colonel George A Henry is an ardent I Republican yet so in love with Delegate Dele-gate Rawlins that on a recent trip to Detroit he named a pet claim Joe Rawlins I H S Cahoon has obtained the contract con-tract for hauling the Ibex ore from Detroit to Oasis I is intended to ship i forty tons per day as soon as arrangements arrange-ments can be made for unloading at I Leamington From John W Reid just in from a trip west it is learned that Osceola is putting on lively airs Four hundred cords of wood are being ricked for use in the Cumberland mill which has steamed up with the new tricone pro oem John Williams went out to Detroit ion Sunday to look after Ibex interests His company have purchased several valuable I copper properties near Frisco the ore from which will be worked in the Leamington smelter Ithe Friday Colonel Henry and the Blade editor made a flying trip to the Detroit mining district and visited the j I northern portion of the camp I The little town at the springs and which hereafter will be known a Drum postofflce is growing quite rapidly Many strange faces are seen about the camp quite a number of them waiting for work hence no one should go out I there expecting to obtain employment Three shifts are now sinking on the Battler A shaft is going down near a j large body of high grade coppergold ore The shaft was started on a small seam of iron stained spar and at a depth of about twentyfive feet the little lit-tle vein ha increased ito eighteen inches and changed to ore carrying 19 per cent copper and running well in gold Everything appears to be in place and it is believed the owners are on < the right lead Iright company with John Barrett a visit of inspection was made to the Utah No 1 distant from the spring about one mile southwesterly On this claim there are three shafts two of them forty feet deep and the others seventy five feet in depth lOne of the fortyfoot shafts is all in quartz carrying ten ounces silver and 10 in gold with no trace of copper and appears to be an entirely different ledge to the other upon which there are two shafts and which show copper from top to bottom The Utah ledge is a monster as from the bottom of the seventyfiyefoot shaft which is higher up on the hillside side and the bottom of the fortyfoot shaft crosscuts have been run and a twentyfoot vein of ore developed which averages 22 in gold silver and copper The ledge Is between shale and lime At the Ibex improvements are going forward The mine is situated on the north slope of the mountain which frs the south side of a deep gulch i and which opens quite wide to the northeast A dugway several hundred yards in length has been graded up the gulch to a point directly below the tunnel tun-nel now being driven in under the old workings At the upper end of the dugway an ore bin with a capacity of 200 tons Will be erected a qpaciy and a chute will be built connecting the tunnel and ore bin x v Just below the dugway and several h j J > f hundred yards distant from the mine a two story boarding house 50x16 feet and leanto for a kitchen has been completed within three weeks and an office building 20x36 feet two stories is now in course of erection The Ibex group of five claims is being be-ing surveyed for patents and every move that is being made shows permanency per-manency and preparations for mining on a large scale and the latest developments devel-opments in the Ibex are such as to warrant preparations A vein of fine ore was cut near the mouth of the tunnel The vein was small but was followed in by means of a small drift and at the same time a incline shaft was started higher up the hill and driven down under some large ore croppings The vein was followed down with varying width from two to five feet and then pinched to about 18 inches The Incline shaft and drift have now been connected and a four foot vein of high grade ore has been encountered and which is going down with everything as regular as could possibly be desired The Pat Mehan group is showing up wonderfully well Superintendent R B Guiles is driving an incline haft down on the vein A depth of fifty three feet has been gained The surface sur-face ground is badly broken to a depth of about forty feet where the vein changes to a nearly uniform dip of 80 degrees and where also i is very thin being only a few inches and within thirteen feet a vein of soft red ore and talc has been encountered that samples more than 20 in gold The ground also has greatly improved in appearances and permanency |
