Show ESCAPED CONVICTS Five of the Men Who Got Out of Butte Jail Caught No One Hilled In Their capture The Jury in the Dutch John Murder Case Re tiro No Verdict Yet BUTTE Mont Jan 16Special telegram tele-gram to THE HERALD The city and L county officers today captured four of the men who on the night of tho llth instant cut their way out of the jail here They are Charles G Price the slayer of P J Cunningham J B Smith the colored desperado des-perado who attempted to murder a police officer E Staffard one oF the enfe blowers and Fran Sparks the highway man The two latter were found hiding in a dugout in the southern part of the city and although both were well armed they surrendered only when given to un derstand that they would be killed if they refused to do so These men together with Dan Crowley another safeblower were located in a cabin in another part of tho city a few days ago but an attempt to capture them by an i insufficient posse resulted in the escape of all of them The al colored man was located in another cabin in the eastern part of the city and arrested by a posse Both his feet were frozen Price was found in the attic of the Miners union bal where he was being harbored by friends He had in his possession a 44 calibro Colts revolver and when he looked into the muzzle of four guns in the hands of officers und requested to throw up his hands he refused to do so and requested his captors to shoot him Although he baa been supplied with eve suppled every thing he desired to make him comfortable he was a pitiable sight having dwindled away to almost a skeleton The capture these makes five of the saven who escaped one having been arrested fifty miles from hero about a leek ago |
