Tnc riXEST police force in the whole vorldwill have their hands full on and after September 1st The New York legislature leg-islature at its last session passed a lawmaking law-making the use of tobacco by minors under sixteen years of ago a misdemeanor They did this because in New York us in many other places in the country the smoking of cigarettes onthe cars upon the streets and avenues and in various places of public resort re-sort by boys many of them of tender years has become an intolerable nuisance and for tho further reason that eminent medical men have inveighed against the practice declaring that the habitual use of tho cigarette is underming tho constitutions constitu-tions of thousands of the youth of America A violation of the statute is made punishable punisha-ble by a fine of not more than S10 nor less than 2 and the police have been instructed to arrest all minors found using cigarettes or tobacco in any form upon the public streets or on or in any public place The working of this law will be watched with interest all over this broad land and if it be successful suc-cessful similar enactments will be made in many other states
