| Show GREAT IS Of ANDO JI J But the World Does Hoc Know Him Nor Care For Him BAD CASE OF LIVER COMPLAINT A Correspondent Makes Some Good Suggestions Sugges-tions That Should be Taken Advantage Advan-tage of by the Union Pacific To the Editor of TIn HERAU I Tho Tribune of Sunday last contained a letter from 110 J H that was beaded Great Salt Lake but which should have read Great O J Hollister Instead ot being a letter oa the lake it was a soreheaded I sore-headed growl that the Union Pacific the Utah Central and sundry persons had for years and years and years been stealing his descriptions of Salt Lake from his own own copyright pamphlets without giving him credit for the same without mentioning mention-ing his name even or if so only in the most brief and stingy manner What is the matter with Hollister Is ita disease or was he born raw and never skinned over 3 One would think that it was he who mado the heavens the earth the seas and al therein in six days and all very good and is mad all the time because the world of man does not worship him He might I as well accuse Jehovah of not giving him credit for creating Great Salt lake as to accuse men of stealing from him what ha took from others without permission The fellow seems to think that Utah is his meat Well ho has lived on it so long that perhaps his idiosyncracy in that particular par-ticular is not surprising But it is rather conducive to merriment see the egotistical egotisti-cal of the man because the world does not know him or care for him Ho recognizes in every article published on the subject the lake sentences and paragraphs word for word of my his own inditing of years ago It makes him sour and he does not enjoy the bathing But in the next sentence he steals a phrase the silent bivouac of the dead without any pertur ations of conscience Of course it is common property and he has the same right to it that others have But so has Lomax Strahorn and all others the same right to what Hontan Irving and Fremont said that he has Besides if his copyright is of any value why does he not collect damages In a book that he helped to make abusing the Mormons it is recommended that the government double the tines imposed upon convicted cohabs and divide them with the informer That looks as If Hollister had a little scheme on hand to put money in his purse in addition to tho regular fees at the public crib If Hollister is not sized up at his own estimation of himself it is his own fault He came to Utah as a government officer Now an officer of the United States who allows himself to show any partiality is unfit for the position he occupies even if it be only a deputyship Hollister has blistered his lips for years with hot maledictions male-dictions upon the Mormon people He was here simply to do the work of his office He was getting his living from taxes paid in part at least by tho Mormon people Manly modesty and common civility due from a representative of the nation to its people would have led him to do his duty in his office and leave the shortcomings or longcoinings of the Mormons to be attended to by other United States officials appointed for that purpose But apparently he was out of both those characteristics and hence has ever been loudmouthed loud-mouthed meddlesome and abusive towards the Mormon people Egotism rare raw gross and uninviting has kept him stewing all these years until now he has boiled ary and burnt to the pot and of course is crusty and impalatable He should put himself to soak in the Great Salt lake for a year or two and heal himself him-self Then let him start out with a clear understanding that he is not the only indi vidual in Utah treat people respectfully as his office requires that he should and in time ho may find that this old world is a daisy and this life worth living even if he is not recognized at his own estimate of himself The recommendation that he put himself in soak in the lake suggests tho reflection that in the letter referred to he had to prow and growl even about the bathers They did not do as he did and he didnt like it so there now Why didnt they look at him treading and catch on1 What made them lay on their backs with fair round bellies with good fat capon lined shaming the sun 1 When they rolled pvpr it was worse and made him sick to his stummik so it did Tread tread water damn your you-r Ill reply to you with a club you conscienceless fakirs he seems to have been saying to them all the time Ho ought to remember that the people ot today have not been on thc tread mill and in the swim of office holding as long as he and may prefer to enjoy a bath without interference from the tax gatherer But there is one recommendation ill the deputy collectors instructions to bathers in Great Salt lake that I would like much to see him practising in the brine at say three fathoms depth If he will give an exhibition I will go out to witness it Io has been growling in his letter at the bathers for daring to lIe down horizontally upon the water and telling them that they must keep the perpendicular position all the time Then ho adds The trick is to learn to paddle and move about turn around and roll over and change end for end and swim if one wants and keep the lower parts deep in the water If ono is perpendicular and must turn round to nleaso the denutv I ian see how that might be done He has only to back water with say the left fin and give way or pull with the rightand there ho is turned round in a jiffy But to keep the perpendicular with tIle lower parts deep in the water and turn over is another kind of a flounder That is a trick that I do not see how even the deputy accomplished accom-plished aquabat as ho appears to be on papercan perform without breaking water or perhaps worse with those lower parts that he insists must be kept deep in the water all the time Similarly I am a bit staggered with tho effort to see how one can calmly deliberately in prayerful merry or even soreheaded mood go into Great Salt lake where the water is twenty feet deep keep himself straight up and down with the lower parts deep in tho water and then change end for end for any considerable length of time without serious risk of getting more bilge water than it would be safe for an ordinary vessel of wrath to have in his hold especially of that kind of water But if time deputy will perform that trick 111 be thar By tho wav I suggest to the railroad men that they engage en-gage the deputy for a Sunday afternoon performance in Great Salt Lake in the near future How would this look for an announcement ATTRACTION EXTK KOKDINAKY Colonel O T Hollister has been engaged en-gaged to give an exhibition in Great Salt Lake outside of the pavilion Sunday at 3 p m This artestic performer will exhibit exhi-bit his new copyright perpfcrdieular trick of changing end for end with his lower parts deep in the wator The baud will play Down went MiGlntyS I I CHARLES ELLIS |
