Show The Greeley Mining Company Below Is the report of the expert who recently visited and inspected the property of the Greeley Mining company Agreeably to your wishes i have made a personal inspection of the Greeley Mining Min-ing companys property in the Little Cottonwood mining district about twenty eight miles southeast of this city and I find as fnllnwra fnn f fnlmv Tho property lies about one mile in a southerly direction from Alta and consists of three locations embracing 1300x1500 feet about 44 acres tho greater part of the property lies on the eastern side of the divide between Little Cottonwood and American Fork canons There is a pretty fair wagon road from Alta and the tramway up to and across the south lork and within 1500 feet of the mouth of the Greeley tunnel and a good trail the balance of the way The Greeley tunnel situated about 800 feet below the top of the divide and runs into the mountain moun-tain 50 feet at the end of which is a shaft twentyfive feet in depth I find the tunnel shaft and two drifts of 1B feet each one on each side of the tunnel in vein matter on all sides and all carrying ore Tho shatt is going down on two streaks of ore one 18 inches in width at the bottom of the shaft and carrying 105 ounces of silver andjJl7 lead the other two feet in width and carrying 2396 ounces silver and 138 ounces lead a sample taken for five feet across the bottom the shaft carries 774 ounces silver and 171 per cent lead and 1Q3 gold The shaftis 3x5 feet in size I took c some ore from the bottom of the shaft that lead carried 930 ounces silver and 28 per cent leadThe The work now being carried on by the Greeley company is for the purpose of developing de-veloping the property and I must say that the gentlemen in charge are doing the business bus-iness in a very creditable manner 1 find the tunnel finely timbered where necessary a firstclass track in the tunnel from shaft to dump a No1 ore car some 250 feet of air pipe excellent steel cable hoisting apparatus metal buckets etc a good building about 12x14 feet well timbered tim-bered good bunks and furnished in a good substantial manner arid so constructed as to withstand anything in the nature of a snowslide There are plenty of provisions wood powder fuse and other necessaries tn ln t t v u u I found 20 sacks of 140 ore and about 25 tons of 300 ore stored in the tunnel and drifts ready for shipment I would not like to say bow much ore there is in sight beyond this that there is 75 by 30 feet of pay ore exposed There is ample water in the Little Cottonwood Cot-tonwood for all mill purposes at the bottom bot-tom of the mountain about 1500 feet below be-low the tunnel Coal is worth 615 per ton Mining timbers aro twelve and onehalf cents per foot delivered at the mine however how-ever no timbering is needed in the shaft The rates of freight on ore from Alta to the smelters at Sandy are 3 per ton in summer and 6 in winter The running of a tunnel 250 feet would strike the present workings 200 feet below the mouth of the shaft Quartzite and porphyry is the formation There is a lime contact about 100 feet east of the tunnel tun-nel and running parallel with i In conclusion I will that from clclusion wi say fron my knowledge of that locality gained by sixteen six-teen years work in its mines and a thorough examination of the Greeley Mining Min-ing companys property that the Greeley is a mine that bids fair to take the cake in the Cottonwoods Before going to the Greeley as you are aware I was somewhat prejudiced having heard so many big reports concerning concern-ing the property and thinking them overdrawn over-drawn I found the property better than reported Respectfully submitted JOSEPH Moss |
