| Show A Story of Jay Gould That reminds me of a story of Jay Gould which I have never seen in print It relates i late t the purchase of the Missouri Sue d S-ue railroad which Jay Gould bought of Garrison The ran wa paying good div dends and Garrison was not at all an oust ous-t selL Jay Gould asked him what he Would take for the property and his reply was Two and onehalf million dollars That i toe much replied Gould and I cant give it V gve returned Garrison you dont 1 ned to take it if you dont want to but I will tell you that the price will be COO tomorrow Gould laughed and walked away The next day he called again and offered t give the 2500000 for the road You cant have it replied Garrison The road i now worth 3000000 I wont give it said Gould I am not Iso t Is-o sell replied Garrison and I dont care whether you take it or not but by noon tomorroW the price will be 3500000 The result was that Gould waited reult wa waied over until un-til the next day and actually paid 3500000 for the road Frank G Carpenters Letter |
