Show Ogden City Council t OGDEK May 9Special telegram to Tni HERALD When the council met at 8 p m there were present the mayor and all the members of the council except Aldermen Alder-men Fell and Whalen and Councilor Hank A petition was presented asking for the erection of a band stand on the public grounds of the cit for city the holding of open air concerts Referred to the committee on public grounds The canton of Odd Fellows asked for the use of Lester Park pavilion for tho use of drill Granted R B Shepard contractor for the construction con-struction of the carnival palace was granted the use of a portion of the street for the piling of building material The hack drivers ordinance was read amended and passed by a yea and nay vote J Brinker and others were granted a franchise to construct a single or double track railway from Washington avenue to and through Power place to the mouth of Ogden ca on The committee to whom was referred the protest against opening a street through block 25 plat A recommended that the petition be rejected and that a street be vpened through the block north and south and that the city attorney take the necessary neces-sary steps to open the same according to law The report was adopted The sanitary committee reported no cause for complaint on the part of tho city prisoners of being insufficiently fed Re port adopted The committee on sewerage reported a notice of intention to district the city and put in sewers in certain districts The districts to be sewered embraces the terri tory lying between Twentyfirst and Twen tysixth streets west Adamsavenue The estimated cost of the sewer being 97000 twothirdsof which amount shall be paid I I I 7 j by local tax on the property benelitted I A The committee on public grounds re I s forted an expenditure of 26355 for plant r l t ing trcos grading etc in Liberty and Lester parks The six members of the paid fire department depart-ment wore allowed a half months pay amounting to 21750 The committee on water supply were empowered em-powered to devise means and construct ap paratus for sprinkling the streets without using waterfrom the city mains On the recommendation of the mayor a board of medical examiners was elected by the council as follows Drs Carnahan D W Reed and S L Brick Preshaw moved that the recorder be instructed in-structed to advertise for the sale by auction or lots embraced in tuesouth half of Union square and other lots owned by the city cityi and not reserved the same to be sold to the i highest bidder Carried The question of employing a mounted police force was referred to tho police commissioner com-missioner Joseph Clark the old chief of the fire department de-partment was allowed 100 for his services ser-vices John Houtzs child died Friday evening of diphtheriaafter few days suffering The Commercial Press caught fire last evening and did considerable damage Tho floor was badly burned and all the woodwork wood-work ot the press destroyed The building had a close call from going up in smoke and flame The roll of the street supervisor shows that 115905 was expended upon the streets during the past week |
