Show AT TIIEDRIVING PARKA PARK-A Good Turnout and a Pleasant Days Sport SURPRISE PARTY FOR THE BOYS linderma Goes Against the Man with the Scythe and Heats Him The Work by Grants Marble and Hate The races at the driving park drew oat a very good attendance yesterday notwith standing tho fact that the heavy rain of a few hours before had made the ground rather moist and the clouds were hang lag threateningly around indicating that another downpour might bo expected at any moment Soon after the hour named for commencing however the clouds cleared away and the sun came out bright and warm relieving the track of consid arabic of the heaviness with which it was The afternoons sport was very much enjoyed and considerable bands money changed The first event in the matinee was a trot between Rileys Black Crook and Gil lespies James F and it was won by the former in straight heats Time 42k and 230 James F a big bright bay was first upon the track and received many flattering comments upon his general ap pearance but ho was not fleet enough for his dusky companion James was evidently out of condition and worked as though ho had emptied his manger and feed box only a few moments before he was sent to the track Crook broke twice but had no dif ficulty in regaining lost ground and fin Dyers Mora K who was advertised in i this race was withdrawn on to go account of lameness l bad weather and sloppy track Blackbird Charley Brown and Busby re sponded to the call for the two in three and finished in the order named Bird pace had the outside in the start but flow around the others before the quarter was reached and was never after collared The game was evidently to beat Brown The little was pocketed early in the first heat gray and kept there to the distance pole The same tactics were tried on the little stranger for the second heat He was still in the middle but the pace set by Bird was too hot for Busby he fell back on a break and re leased Brown who started after the leader and ran him out in 2 14 under the whip First heat 2 246X This was a more ex citing race than the first and more interest was taken in it because the racers were more evenly matched Considerable money changed bands on the result of the next race which was made up on the grounds that J F Grants Marble and mate were to beat 315 to pole at the first attempt The horses had never been hooked together before ani odds were offered that tune would get first place Hy Grant ably piloted the ponies through in 313J after driving each to a break The losers then wanted to got even and would wager any reasonable amount that J F could not drive his own horse Mar ble the mile out in 3 minutes Josh thereupon relieved them of their surplus by doing the trick in 249 with a corapara Tho event of the day however was Ln derman against time He was to do 230 He did it but with nothing to spare and the man with the scythe got left Al though it was a very interesting days sport not many ladies were out because of the threatening weatherbut the attendance was fair and shows that the racing inter est is not wholly dead but only sleeneth |
