Show A HERALD VICTORY Committees to Solve the Freight Rate Problem TH WORK TIT MUST BE DONE I i Not to be a War on the Railroads but They Will be Hade to See the Error of Their Ways The joint committees appointed by the real estate exchange and the chamber of commerce to inquire into the charges of discriminations made by the railroad companies com-panies against Salt Lake merchants and shippers and to so2ure such adjustment as they can effect met at the cham her > of commerce rooms last evening even-ing for the purpose of organizing There were present P Simon Spencer Clawson G P Culmer J C Conkling H C Lett P W Madsen and H P Mason F Simon was chosen chairman and outlined out-lined the policy of the committee by saying say-ing thatits purpose was not to inaugurate a war against the different railway companies com-panies but t meet them on a businesslike way and by the presentation of facts show that wo are entit ed to concession on I existing rates believing that a proper presentation sentation of the business interests of this city will secure such adjustment as will meet the demands of our merchants and shippers W C B Allen on account of his largo experience and excellent work in securing satisfactory freight and passenger rates for Omaha waswiselyselectcd as the committees com-mittees secretary Every member was requested to prepare a statement of unjust discriminations which came under his personal knowledge knowl-edge that the same may be embraced in the secretarys report that a revision may be made The committee will meet at the chamber room on every Friday evening at 8 oclock and hold such extra sessions as will be found expedient until its work is completed com-pleted |
