Show The BarnabyGraves Case DENVER Dec 23In the Barnaby Graves trial today the defense opened the case by placing Edward Field and Colonel Ballou the latter is counsel for defense on the stand Nothing new was brought outTwo experts in handwriting swore that although the inscription on the whisky bottle bot-tle was similar in writing to letters written ten by Graves they did not think both writings were bv the same person In tho crossexamination bowever both experts admitted that many letters In the inscription inscrip-tion on the bottle and those on the Graves ton letters were tbe same J A Bennett a veterinary surgeon was called to prove that the arsenic of potassium was sometimes kept in livery stables The point to be made was to show that as the bottle of whisky remained in the buggy In the stable over night before being dolly cred to Mrs Barnaby it seems as if hostlers hos-tlers might have drank the contents of the bottle to escape detection and refilled it from the nearest bottle at hand In this way they might have stumbled on a bottle of arsenic of potash and emptied It into the original bottle Upon cross examination be could not name any positive instance in which he had seen arsenic of potassium in a livery stable I b |
