Show mentCOUNT I COUNT YON ROSEN He I Arrested on the Charge bV of Swindling His Promised Remittance Did Not Turn up He Left Stockholm with Frau Hartman Hart-man His Illustrious Lineage NEW YORK Jan 13The young man w ho calls himself Count C Clarence cals bimsel von Rosen arrested last Saturday night at the I instance of Martin Suva the keeper of an I in telligence office and boarding house is I till in the Yorkville jail He is charged w ith swindling His accuser said the title h e bore was undoubtedly spurious He fi rst made the acquaintance of Suva by a nswering an advertisement for a theist n cal engagement The position did not suit so he declined it Then he told Suva hat he had wealthy relatives in Sweden and that he was awaiting a remittance of 8000 from his agent in Denver who had old a piece of land for him He also exhibited ibited certificates of stock in a building and loan association in Bloomington Illi n ois Suva kindly loaned the count money it is said at a large interest for which the ount gave five newly purchased shares of he building and loan stock as security He hen told Suva that he expected to marry a n heiress in the south He Suva loaned him 40 more The money the ount expected from Denver failed to arrive The young woman he was to marry did not show up Suva became sus jicious He had the count arrested When arraigned in court Monday morning the ount was very indignant Among other hings be said he was not an impostor Mrs lara B Moore of 510 Broad street Phila Phia street delphia was aunt he said His representations represen-tations are genuine He is not a spurious count and has wealthy relatives galore He i s in reality a grandson of Mrs Bloomfield Moore a wealthy widow of Philadelphia The count admitted to a reporter tonight hat he was not Clarence Von Rosen Count Reinhold Gust or Edward Moore Von Rosen is his name although he previously previ-ously denied this fact and said he was a younger brother I as he says he is Reinhold Von Rosen he has been in the I country since last Junehavlng eloped from Stockholm Sweden with Mrs Ellen Hartman Hart-man a leading lady of the Royal Dramatic I theatre Stockholm The counts father Count Von Rosen married Mrs Bloom I field Moores daughter Ella more than twentyseven years aeo when the elder I Von Rosen was a dashing nobleman He came to this country on a visit and at a reception re-ception given by Cyrus W Field he met Ella Moore They fell in love and after a short engagement were married and went to Sweden Count Von Rosen has always lived happily with his American wi e They now have five children of whom the I prisoner In the Yorkville jail is the I eldest Count Von Rosen the elders i elder-s now the private secretary tc King Oscar of Sweden The young mans i man-s about twentysix years old and oung been carefully educated in the royal high school at Stockholm He is a graduate of the University of Upsala He received martial mar-tial training in the royal military school and at the time he eloped with Frau Hartman Hart-man was lieutenant the Kings guard For about two years he had been a prominent promi-nent figure at court The Hartman escapade happened May 6 last After leaving Stockholm with the woman who is i described as most beautiful they went to Paris remaining there about two weeks He loft her at one of the theaters where she had secured an engagement and came to this country The count said he had not seen his grandmother since his arrival because be-cause ho had been ashamed to go to her after the newspapers had published his elopement with Frau Hartman He also admitted that he had been gambling in Philadelphia and that reports of his bad conduct had reached his relatives and he had remained away from them for fear his welcome would not be cordial The count was visited today by the chief of police of Stockholm Sweden who is a guest of Inspector Byrnes The chief recognized the count but at the young mans request denied recognition |
