the month of December was read and referred re-ferred to the commitXJe on finance The report showed that during tho month a > arrests were made 30 for drunkenness 2 for visiting houses of illfame 1 for larceny lar-ceny 1 for battery and 1 for vagrancy Of this number 21 paid their fines and were discharged and the remainder were committed com-mitted to the care of the marshal He also reported nil this week amounted to thirtytwo bars ralued at 17401 ONTARIO KO 2 The Ontario No 2 shaft is going down slowly on account of trouble with water The depth now is 1470 feet When the 1500 level is reached drifting will commence com-mence on the drain tunnel Being worked it both ends the time or completion of this mammoth undertaking will bo hastened A SEW STRIKE A new strike has been made in the camp and during the past week has been the topic of conversation among all classes rno high grade of tho ore and the large vein in which it is found and the fact that it is in an entirely new locality as far as mineral is concerned have been good cause for excitement and talk The good fortune of the locators is commented upon everywhere every-where and no ono can be found who does not wish them all the success that at present pres-ent seems to be theirs The location of tho Eagles Nest claims as they are called is about four miles from Park City on the linoof the Union Pacific a short distance to the left of the track The first discovery discov-ery was mado about a year ago by A Hol lenbeck and William Turnbull while out hunting A piece of float was nickod up I and only a little prospecting was necessary to locate the ledge A location was made of one claim and the matter was kept II The assessment work done quiet was on the cam and at a depth of six feet a I splendid vein was uncovered the ore from which assays 13S ounces silver and 13 percent per-cent lead An assay of a picked sampe was shown to Tnr HCRALD representative Friday evening which went 54s ounces silver ver GO per cent lead and 81730 in gold A combination was formed to locate a number of claims and on the 1st of January ten claims were located by the following parties par-ties A E Hollenbeck William Turnbull William Lake Frank Lake AAKennison Walter Robb Thomas BellEdward Burns William Austin and Sherman Abbott Two men are at work on the property now and wi continue to develop it during tLe winter win-ter A party who visited the gronnd and examined it said that there is every indication indica-tion of a big mine The oreis abundant and thus far gives every sign of permanency perma-nency TiE ANCHOR Preparations are being made by the management man-agement of the Anchor company for a season sea-son of active work during the next summer sum-mer Plans are being drawn for machinery machin-ery for hoisting works and suitable buildings build-ings to enclose the same to be erected on the site of the old works which were burned some time ago Theupraise which is being run to tap the bottom of the hole made by the boring machine is progressing nicely and when the connections arc made the shaft can be sunk to the tunnel level At the immediate shaft the foundation is being laid for the new Rand duplex compressor com-pressor which is now on theroad TUE DATT The new shaft is down forty feet and work is progressing nicely A new coal house has been completed this week which will
