| Show House Committee on Public Buildings WASHINGTON March GThe work of the House committee on public buildings and grounds during the Fiftyfirst Congress is set fourth in a statement prepared by Chairman Milliken The House bills for the erection of new public buildings and the completion or extension of buildings in progress of construction were referred to the committee asking an propriations amounting to 76635625 Of the bills reported from the committee ninetythree passed the House appropriating appropriat-ing 12676639 One hundred and twenty nine Senate bills were referred to the committee com-mittee asking appropriations amounting to 29122500 In most cases these bills were for buildings at places for which House billsvof a similar nature were introduced sitlar troduced Of the Senate bills ninetyfive were reported witH amendments reducing the appropriations to correspond with the House bills The eightyfive a they came from the Senate asked an aggregate appropriation ap-propriation of 24640000 A reported by the committee the amount was reduced to 14293000 Of the bills passed eighty five were approved by the President appropriating 12171639 and four vetoed appropriating 390000 The committee had before it a large number of bills involving in-volving a much larger appropriation than referred in any Congress since the organization or-ganization of the government The policy of the committee has been provide for buildings at 0 largo number of places and 1 limit appropriations |
