| Show l OBITUARY WILLIAMS The funeral services over the remains of the late Evan Williams were held in the Sixteenth ward meetinghouse ThurS y October 1 at 230 p m Tho services were conducted by Bishop Frederick Fred-erick Kesler Appropriate music was furnisher fur-nisher by the ward choir under the direction direc-tion of Brother John Vincent The opening prayer was offered by Counselor William Langton and the closing prayer by Counselor Coun-selor James Phippin Elder George G Bywater Bishop Elias Morris and Bishop Frederick Kesler were the speakers These brethren having had a litetime acquaintance with Brother Williams lams bore testimony to his many sterling qualities of heart and mind and of his modest mod-est retiring nature always being found doing his deeds of love and kindness in a quiet unassuming way known most to those who knew him best Bishop Kesler in the course of his remarks re-marks said that Brother Williams was one of the most faithful men he ever knew and as a member of the ward his record was perfect While he was exceptionally modest and retiring he was always ready and willing to faithfully perform every duty required at his hands A large concourse of mourning relatives and friends followed tho retrains to the cemetery The dedicatory prayer was offered by Elder William J Newun Evan Williams was born June 15 IS0i at Llanflhangelrhosycorn parish Carmar thenshire parish South Wales Emigrated with his family to Utah April 91801 and arrived in Salt Lake city September 23 in the same year He has resided in this city Sixteenth ward except a short time in the Fifteenth ward up to the time of his death I He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints by Elder George Teasdale June 101831 at Florence Nebraska ordained an elder September 20 1862 For 0 great many years he has acted as a teacher but the latter part of his life he labored as a priest Before emigrating to Utah his home was open to the missionaries mission-aries his wife Sarah Jeremy having been a faithful member of the church twelve years before emigrating to Zion Ho was 0 devoted husband and a loving father and enjoyed the confidence and esteem es-teem of all who knew him His nature was extremely kind and genial having a pleasant word and smile for all He met with an accident September 14 which with old age resulted in his death on the 14th inst He leaves a wife six children and twen tyeight grandchildren to mourn his loss SaintCom He lived and died a faithful Latterday |
