| Show TIlE MUNICIPAL OUTLOOK a Saida gentleman of large means to this writer yesterday The propertyowners and taxpayers of this city should combine in an appeal to the courts to prevent the city council from squandering so much money At every meeting thousands of dollars are voted away and there is very little to show for the cash Much of this money is borrowed and all will have to be paid by the men who own the property It will be an awful legacy which the council coun-cil will leave As things are going the legal limit of the municipal debt will be reached before the end of the present term and future councils will be compelled to impose enormous taxes to obtain money with which to pay the current necessary expenses and meet the interest charges There will be nothing left for improvements improve-ments and only by the most rigid economy will the next and succeeding governments be able to make ends meet I think that if any considerable number of the propertyowners were to combine in a statement of the facts and an appeal the courts the latter would find away I way for affording us protection against the extravagance and incompetency which characterize the municipal administration administra-tion There was much more of this kind of talk and it was all earnest Thegentleman has long been a heavy taxpayer and has done his full share of tho work of building this city He is indignant at the thought that to will soon have to remove from the city which has been his home so many years or live along devoting de-voting himself to the accumulation of money to hand over to the taxgatherer to be squandered on an army of overpaid and unnecessary officials It is a shame that such apprehension should be felt such fear expressed It is a shame that a city council should give occasion for such an arraignment arraign-ment |
