| Show Worlds Fair Matters CHICAGO Oct 20At todays meeting the executive committee of the Worlds fairjnational commission Harris of Virginia Vir-ginia offered a resolution which he asked be referred to a conference committee of the commission and local directory directing direct-ing that a committee to consider the advisability advis-ability of appointing a joint conference committee of the two bodies to act permanently perman-ently with relation to subjects in which both bodies are interested If this proposition propo-sition is adopted will result in the creation crea-tion of a body representing both boards which would probably be in almost continual contin-ual session in this city and would exercise supervision over all practical administration administra-tion of exposition affairs The director general has submitted a report re-port urging the adoption of a system of bureaus for the administration of the work of the exposition He announced the appointment of General F H Armstrong Arm-strong as his assistant to bo sent to the different states to assist in organizations A subcommittee of the committee on classification submitted a reportj reviewing review-ing the entire work of the committee and making an estimate of the number of acres floor space and uncovered ground required for the various displays as follows fol-lows Agricultural hall fifteen acres horticultural hor-ticultural hall five acres without outside space twentyfive livestock live-stock one hundred acres no estimate esti-mate of the buildings fishes two acres mineral palace five machinery hall twenty transportation twenty besides be-sides open space electrical palace four manufacturers palace twenty fine arts gallery five The space to be occupied by federal buildings and those of foreign and state governments and special and private exhibitors are not included in these estimates esti-mates Professor Blakes report gave a system of classification substantially the same aa that temprarily adopted a few nights ago except that he reposes a separate department depart-ment for transportation railways vessels and vehicles and also a separate department depart-ment entitled ethnology archaeology and the progress of labor and invention The matter of a separate department for music and the drama he leaves for the commission to discuss |
