| Show Architect A B 3Iullett Suicides WASHINGTON Oct 20A B Mullett one of the best known architects in this city anti for years supervising architect of the treasury department shot and killed himself this evening at his residence Ho has been in poor health for a long time suffering from rheumatism and other complaints com-plaints but it is thought financial trouble was the chief cause of his act Dr P 1 Murphy the surgeon in charco of Columbia hospital who for many years has been Mulletts family physician made a statement of the circumstances of the shooting substantially as follows About 5 oclock he called at the house to see Mrs Mullett who was slightly indisposed After prescribing for Mrs Mullett the doctor took his leave and went to his office just across the street He had been there but a short time when a son of Mr Mullett came running over and asked him to como to the house immediately He hurried back in response to the summons and found Mullett lying across the bed in his sleeping apartments and partially disrobed He was unconscious and bleeding profusely The doctor made a hasty examination and found the blood came from a wound about two inches above the right ear The dying man gave three or four gasps and expired within seven minutes after the wound had been inflicted When the doctor first entered en-tered the room he found Mrs Mullett lying by the side of the body of her wounded husband weeping bitterly with her arms thrown around his neck The doctor removed re-moved her gently from the room and then gavehis attention to nor husband Later in the evening the coroner was summoned and after an examination of the body gave a verdict of death from suicide due to melancholy mel-ancholy Mr Mullett was 5C years old and very well known He designed many of the public buildings that have been erected in different cities among them being the New York city postoflice and the imposing state war and navy department buildings in the city Mr Mullett had a severe case of the grip last winter from which he still suffere For the past few months he has been at times despondent and gloomy |
