Show Two Easiness Blocks Collapse AKRON Ohio Nov 7Two Howard street business blocks collapsed this afternoon after-noon and it is feared several pursons are buried I the ruins One rt the blooks was a four story brick with stone front occupied occu-pied by Herrick Sons crockery jobbers The other was brick three stories high occupied oc-cupied by the bakery and confectionery of S B Lafferty About twenty people were i in the dining room in the rear of the bakery i when an ominous cracking began They immediately rushed out of the back door and all escaped safely A number of clerks and some customers in both stores were painfully cut and bruised by flying debris while making their escape butonly Francis Miner and Walter Stanley arc thought to be fatally hurt Horrick and Lafforty both say all their clerks got out safely but an eye witness says ho saw two or threo persons on the sidewalk side-walk in front of Herricks store when the crash came and that they must be buried there The debris is piled up on the sidewalk side-walk ten feet deep and the fire department is removing it as rapidly as possible The wall between tho two blocks has been gradually grad-ually undermined in the last few years by water from an overflowed sewer One block was pronounced unsafe some time tme ago and Herrick said he yesterday called the attention of the owner to tho loose and crumbling brick in the cellar wall Later tonight it is ascertained nobody I posed was buried in tho ruins as at first sup |
