meantime the police are in hot pursuit THE Utah Leader is the newest candidate for public favor It is published at Pa son and is edited by E R Powell It presents a very neat appearance and we wish it whaler success it merits However it would seem to be seeking 1 an early grave ab it has started out in a manner calculated to antagonize ninetenths of the people peo-ple in Payson by interfering with their religious belief THE hearing in the beach lands contest was resumed the Third district court yesterday when Mr McCormick was recalled and testified further in regard to the character of the land in dispute He stated that in his opinion the land was certainly susceptible of reclamation to an agricultural state by artificial Irrigation The hearing will be resumed tomorrow morning and will last of this edition in connection with the copyright consequently all orders will be filled by them in the future 8 BEFORE THE HERALD reaches the public again on its mission of light right and liberty Charles Ellis will have added to all three the power and value of his unsurpassed lecture entitled en-titled Disfranchisement a Crime The lecture lec-ture will be given in the theatre Doors open ut 750 lectur at S Admission 25 andO cents Mr Ellis has done more hard and honest work to get possession of the facts In regard to the Utah question thun any man who has ever cdmo here as a nonMormon and he Is the only outsider out-sider who having found the truth has had the courage to maintain it in the face and teeth of Ills snarling threatening enemies Mr Ellis deserves a crowded house tomoirow night COMPANY commanders at the Fort received orders yesterday to hae their company com-pany property reaay for loading on the cars at a moments notice The objective point of the Fort Douglas troops will be Fort D A Russell near Cheyenne Wyoming The reason ot going to Wyoming is to be nearer the expected scene of conflict as the military authorities are firm In their belief that an engagement or actual war will be waged in the early spring at the latest The suspense at the Fort can scarcely bo imagined by the civilian Officers and men are been in groups discussing tho situation By going to Fort D A Russell the boys will have good quarters and not suffer so much as they i would either at Pine Ridge or Standing Rock Troops are now being massed at and around the threatened agencies ani in the event of the Fort Douglas garrIson leaving Salt Lake wont see the boys for some six months to come Is July last Louis Lapiner of Ogden came down to this city and upon his representations as to his financial standing Ed M Gainzburg agent for J J Schloss the New York clothing dealer accepted an order for goods amounting to 1400 Some time afterwards Lapiner made an assignment and on Friday Mr Guinzburg swore out a complaint charging Lapiner who was then in this city with obtaining goods under false pretenses The officers however were unable to find the man but Marshal Met calf spotted him on the train to Ogden and arrested ar-rested him and took him to the Junction city Yesterday morning Lapiner secured his release on habeas corpus but Officer Glenn arrived in Ogaen shortly afterward and arrested Lapiner and brought him to this city There will be further developments on Monday Mn H C GILBET vicepresident of the Jar visConklin company of Kansas City Mo was in the city yesterday looking over the Salt Lake street car system in which his company Is heavily interested He is now located in Ogden where he has a street car fight on his hands He Is confident however that his company com-pany will come out on top and looks upon the Henderson scheme as being practically ended He expects to have electric cars running in Og den within thirty days Mr Janis is now east buying cars and other equipments The power to propel the cars will be obtained for the pro Bent at least from the electric light plant At tho risk of raising a snarl from some of the real mossbacks of the Junction city we will venture the assertion that an electric street car service such as Mr Gilbert proposes to give Ogden will do more for our sister city than all the abuse of Salt Lake that has been belched out by sore heads more than all tho wind that has been wasted by real state boomeis more than has so far resulted from the combined energies of Ogdens business men This is the history of the electric car in Salt Lake There is no reason why it should not be rjpeated in Ogden |
