| Show THE PRIZES AWARDED Winners of The Heralds Christmas Issue I Premiums The work of reading the various manuscripts manu-scripts received by THE HERALD in answer to its offer of cash prizes for the bost Christmas story the best Christmas Poem and the best article on Utah as a Home a Health and Pleasure Resort and a Place for Investment has been concluded and I the prizes assigned The matter of awarding the prize of 850 for the best Christmas story was attended Ito I-to by THE HERALD staff As a result of their labors they give the prize to the story Monsieur Jean Baptistes Christmas Christ-mas Surprise signed with the nom deplume de-plume Maud Muller Maud Muller is found to be Mrs Allen Miller of Ogden Bishop O F Whitney who kindly consented con-sented to act as judge of the merits of the pooms submitted in competition for the 25 prize writes as follows To tile Editor of THE HERALD SfrOf the fifteen poems submitted mo I find at least six of decided merit but the one un oubtedly preeminent is the poem entitled I 11 I a Star of Hone signed with the name Jeanne Yours truly O F WHITNEY I On opening Jeannes envelope the owner was found to bo Miss Josephine Spencer the winner of one of last yearfs prizes THE HERALD staff also considered the warding of the S2o prize for the best article arti-cle on Utah as a Home a Health and Pleasure Resort and a place for Investment Invest-ment and decided that the best article submitted was that of James L Smith of Castle Gate Emery county The above articles will therefore appear iiijTnE CHRISTMAS HERALD and the prizes forwarded accordingly |
