A GHOST I A MIE I i I Michael Carrolls Spirit Said to Haunt the Anaconda HOW TO DISPOSE OF CRANKS It I Suggested They Should Be Apprehended Sage Will Resume Business Monday The Bomb Thrower Identified BUTTE Mont Dec 5rSpec telegram to THE HERALD The miners employed in the Anaconda copper mine in this city are terribly excited over the report that tho spirit of Michael Carroll is having things its own way on the 700foot level of the mine So great has tho temerity of the men working on this level become that the superstitious ones have refused to work thereon Thoso who claim to have seen the aparition say that in addition to strange noises being heard on the 700 level the spirit perches itself on the timbers in the slopes and gives orders as to the manner man-ner in which the work should be performed Michael Carroll was at one time foreman of the property but last winter he died of pnemonia At times he was a severe se-vere boss and in an altercation with one of the minors a few years ago struck and killed him with an iron bar The spirit of the victim is also said to be haunting the mine and has been seen in company with that of Carroll The matter leaked out today through the refusal of some of the men to descend to tie level mentioned
