Show I PKEPABK FOR THE VISITORS The rail oads propose to do fairly well by Uteh this year Heretofore so little was thought of developing anything any-thing in this Territory that the railways rail-ways acted asif their aim were to keep people away However this has been changed and some consideration will hereafter be given to neglected Utah Instead of discriminating against the Territory and in favor of other sections and especially California the companies com-panies are to interest themselves to bring people here Afairly good tourist rate has been agreed upon It is 47 50 for the round trip from Missouri River points to Salt Lake the tickets will ba good for ninety days and can be used on choice of routes both coming and going they also carry with them stopover stop-over pr vileges en route This arrangement should be the means of bringin many hundreds of tourists and persons seeking opportunities opportun-ities forinvestment into this city during dur-ing the summer It ought to lead much of the pleasure and business travel here and undoubtedly will do so Theeyes of the country are tamed in this direction as never before the pleasareseekers the climatehunters the land speculator and those in search of places for the profitable investment in-vestment of means looking here for what they desire The Utah excursion ticketswill be on sale on April 1st by Which time spring will be with us and soon thereafter we may confidently ex peofrto note the influx But what are we going to do with these strangers when they come Are we going to say to them We are pleased to see you and would like to have you remain a few weeks but unfortunately we are not prepared to keep you Are we going to tll those who would like to remain a couple of months and enjoy our invigorating climate that the y may stay if they will buy tents and pitch them on vacant lots and pubic lands That is about what well have to say for today there is scarcely a house in the city that is vacant and agents say the demand for houses is great Before the 1st of April the hotels will be full and not an ordinary trainload train-load of people can find lodgings A very little of that sort of thin 4 will lo the city a great deal of injury Let two or three excursion parties come her and fail to find comfortable quarters and accommodations and Salt Lake will go out of the field as a tourist town Last summer when the travel was not extaordinary and comparatively compara-tively few peopla stopped over here thereWJS a good deal of complaint because be-cause of the inability to find hotel accommodations ac-commodations or even private lodgings Many tourists went away days before they would have gone and they went off disgusted Naturally twenty will come this year where one came last and we fear the dissatisfiaction and disgust dis-gust will be fearful to contemplate Unless un-less there shall bi more hotels more houses nnd more provision generally for the entertainment of the visitors The matter is one for the consideration considera-tion landowners builders capitalists capital-ists real estate men and boomers |
