Show J A Goose right ST PAUL December 21A special to the Pioneer Press from Sioux City says A serious riot occurred this morning near Tripp Dak between Russian Mennonites and Americans A public sale was held at the far lof a Russian named Sink and an American farmer named Merchant purchased a dozen chickens When ready to start for I Jf abNti home be found two chickens missing and complained to Sink who told him to take something of equal value He caught a goose and started hom but was overtaken by a party of eight Russians Rus-sians who claimed the goose as their property A wrangle ensued that attracted at-tracted others to the scone and soon a general FIGHT WAS IN Sin S-in which seme twenty men were engaged en-gaged with the Russians as the aggressors aggres-sors Two brothers named Johnson who were passing joined in tie melee with knives A Russian named Mayer was stabbed and he in turn split Charles Johnsons head open with a neck yoke inflicting fatal injuries The same weapon was brought to bear on George Johnson and the same knife brought into play on three Russians who were wounded seriously but not fatally The Russians withdrew from the field The wounded Russia1ls were taken care of by friends and nething can be learned The affair has created great excitement in the neighborhood where a majority of the settlers are Russians |
