members of the bar among whom was noticed S R Thurmau serene as usual The names of the grand jurors that had ben summoned were then read by the clerk and fifteen of the uum ber organized vv ith V V H Fairbanks foreman fore-man Judge Judd proceeded to charge the grand jury in his usual unambiguous style setting forth their duties to enquire into crimes committed in the district coining under the laws of the territory and also the United States He cautioned them against finding indictments against any unless they were sure the evidence would convict On the 17th the case of the People vs E Bullock was called and subpanas ordered to be issued for witnesses I John Ainsburg took the usual time to plead to an indictment for unlawful tohab II itation Jacob Kill m plead not guilty of formca I tion and the case was set for trial October Octo-ber 10 On the ISth C Dickenson was made a citizen and court djourned till Thursday On the 19th the grand jury sixteen six-teen United States and one One of the cases so ignored was that against Hon S R Thur man Mr Thurman was discharged and his bondsmen exonerated Court adjourned till 10 a m Monday NOTeS The people generally anticipated the action ac-tion of the grand jury in ignoring the charges against Thurman The many friends of George Sutherland arc quite anxious to see him installed in the chair made vacant by the resignation resigation of Judge Judd Judge Juud we understand has received a letter from Washington accepting ac-cepting his resignation to take effect when Sis successor is appointed ninth qualified We made an unsuccessful
