Show A DISGRUNTLED ORGAN It is amusing to observe the imbecile rage of the Tribune over the platform of principles prin-ciples adopted by the Peoples Party convention con-vention of this city The first part of the platform which the Liberal organ objects to is this We regard the constitution asa as-a sacred charter of human liberty we revere its principles and declare our unwavering un-wavering allegiance to the government and laws made in pursuance of its provisions The organ goes on to say that tie above clause was worded with the usual Mormon Mor-mon duplicity and cunning and that I Mormons do not believe that all laws are made in pursuance of its provisions Now granting for tho moment that some Mormons believe that a certain law is not made in pursuance of the provisions of the constitution and what follows According Accord-ing to the Tribune these persons should not I be allowed to declare their allegiance to the laws that arc made in pursuance of the provisions of the constitution What the Tribune would have them say is that they declare their unwavering allegiance to laws not made in pursuane of the provi I sions of that charter of human liberty all i it is chagrined to find the opposite declaration i declara-tion in the platform The Tribune labors Ito I-to prove that persons so unfortunate as to believe that any law at present found in made in of the statutes was not pursuance the provisions of the constitution should I b disfranchised American citizens should ponder on this monstrous doctrine Not only theso unfortunates who cannot regulate i reg-ulate their belief to suit the varying times but also all who belong t the same political cal party as these obnoxious believers should b disfranchised according to the accepted mouthpiece of the Liberal party It declares in terms that are plain unmistakable and vile that the Liberal Lib-eral party could render no better service to their country than by this very restriction restric-tion of the ballot that exists in Idaho TheIdaho test oath provides that no one who is ii member of any organization that teaches encourages or in any way aids or abets the practice of plural or polygamous marriage can vote or hold any office of honor or emolument in that territory The Tribune acknowledges that the Liberal party secured the disfranchisement of the women of Utah and it has just one re ret that the men also were not disfranchised along with the women That is the men who will not support the Liberal party by voting for its men and measures no others of course The platform arraigns the Liberal party for these two things at least one of which all fair men agree to bo unAmerican the dastardly attempt to deprive its political opponents of the right to vote or hold office But the Triliun claims that the Liberal party has not done or advised some of the other things the platform charges f r 4 them with Let us see What party was it that adridged and almost destroyed the rightof trial by jury in this territory I The Liberal party What party endeavored and is still endeavoring to supplant legislature elected by the people with I commission appointed by Congress The Liberal party What party here except the Liberal party objects to the admission of Ueah a state Finally what party advocates legislation aocats legslation that would debar all persons who belong to I certain religious organization from acquiring ac-quiring title to any part of the public domain There is only one party known to American history that has conceived such infamy as is embodied in this last charge and that is the Liberal party Which of the above charges can the Liberal organ denyl Quotations from its own columns can be supplied on every one of them And a the above charges are all that are made it will greatly puzzle the organ that appears to own the socalled Liberal party to deny or refute any of them I might have said with zaore truth that many members of the Liberal party are opposed op-posed to all these acts of the party itself and that the tie binding them to that party is very weak indeed Such are many if not most of the new comers among us They arc as a rule men from the states where such propositions of party politics as the Liberal party makes would not be tolerated These Americans will thin > twice before voting for a party that pledges itself to the consummation of the mosthateful of all political crimes class disfranchisement it nan only have its way The vapid nonsense about such an utter impossibility as free water some vague general charges about an alleged dishonesty of officials who are now nearly forgotten and declaration in favor of increased in-creased taxationthese things will not secure se-cure the votes of patriotic men Nor can the organ of the Liberals make good its claim that the parts of the platform plat-form dealing with city affairs are leaves torn from the Liberal book On the contrary con-trary the Peoples party has always and earnestly worked for a plentiful supply of water often opposed by the Tribune however how-ever as in the case of the canal has entered vigorously upon the investigation and the construction sevnrage system has maintained uniform and low taxation has endeavored to suppress vice and gambling houses in which it has been almost constantly opposed by the TrtJunc and members of the Liberal party Finally the Peoples party carries out its pledges and will continue to work for the progress and improvement of the city without any such Liberal methods or policy as disfrauchisement of opponents excessive taxation or laxity in social socal public relations I Yes the growls 6f the Trttiunt show that it is badly shaken up over the brief document I docu-ment that enunciates the principles and aims of the Peoples party |
