Show Water Question To the Editor of rum HERALD I Vill tunneling iu the mountains where springs exist increase the supply of water J i Yes for the present Is it right to draw i now when the stream is rising what we w 11 ned in August No Examine our i City Creek canon system Wtiere does I this water come from that we propose to increase I Is there any reservoir of water I ligher than time mountains which feed those springs or a source from which i artesian water can be supplied en lop of the mountains Only that which falls from above iu rain and snow Now looking to the northeast you will observe what we call Snow Cap on the northcast side you will find a heavy body of snow which lasts until about the middle or latter part of June follow down to the base on the south ule and you will see a large volume of water as long as that snow lasts llowing theretrom About a week after the disappearance of that snow the water also disappears Wercyou to tunnel into the mountain now of course the flow would increase but when the snow is gone you will tunnel a long way and get no water While this large volume of water flows from Snow Cap notice the body of water in the first lake then follow down nearly to the foot of the summit and you will find a heavy flow of water Tunneling in the hill now would increase the flow md exhaust the supply a week or two sooner As quick as the lake falls the flow diminishes and soon after the lake dries the flow stops and you find no more water until the head of the creek is reached Tunneling at the head now only wastes what we will need in August All the springs in City Creek canon arc on the same principle When there is plenty of snmv there is ilenty of water showing our source is the I snow and rain Would it not be better to find neans for holding some water back until the scarcity comes > MOU TAINKCU |
