Show INHUMAN BRUTES The Cruel Treatment of Unfortunate Un-fortunate and Incurable People SECRET SOCIETIES IX IRELAND They Have Diminished Since 1866An Ens lish Lueretla Borgia Letters of Sympathy CHICAGO May 9The taking of deposi tions In the suit brought against the management man-agement of the home for incurables was begun today under order of court The depositions of a number of the inmates in-mates of the institution were taken They are generally of a tenor to sustain the allegations alle-gations in the complaint filed a couple of uays ago The unfortunates were very loth to testify tes-tify a number of them declaring they would be made to suffer for it Their stories were pitiful and told of neglect and cruel treatment from the matron aud attendants at-tendants Two of the patients testified that on the morning before the night that James Bot ton died they heard a conversation between Matron Barlow and an attendant relative to the proposition to tie down Botton hands as he was troublesome Mrs Barlo agreed and next morning Botton was found dead in bed with his hands tied and his face and eyes blackened by blows Other inmates testified that a paralytic was forced to walk without shees or stockings stock-ings in the snow from one building to another an-other and that patients suffering from chronic dyspepsia were not allowed to have food as prescribed by the physicians and nearly starved to death that another patient pa-tient suffering from spinal affection was forced t sit in a stiff straightbacked chair causing him intense suffering and generally gener-ally that the patients were treated with abuse and cruelty |
