Show National Civil Service Reform league PHILADELPHIA Oct 2 The National Civil Service Reform league met this morji ing George William Curtis was reelected president Sherman Rogers read a long series of resolutions re-solutions which were adopted dealing with the treatment civil service reform is receiving The resolutions state that tho execution of the law is seriously endangered endan-gered by the appointment as heads of of iices men not in sympathy with the law or its purposes The resolutions condemn the President for having abdicated his power of appointment by placing the appointments appoint-ments at the disposal of partisan leaders thus enabling them to debauch constituen des and control the elections The record of the administration in regard to the railway rail-way mail service is severely condemned and the resolutions find that thepledge of President that fitness and not narty service should be tho solo discriminating test of appointment is disregarded Resolutions introduced by Everett P Wheeler where adopted advocating tho appointment ap-pointment of a special agent at Washington Washing-ton and of missionaries to go about the country with the object of establishing associations sociations and thereby disseminating the principles of civil service reform The next meeting will be held Buffalo Resolutions framed on the lines laid down inCurtiss speech of last night touching touch-ing President Harrison in his relations to civil service were passed |
