Show PROVO POINTS J H BURToN was one of our visitors Friday T H WHITE has gone to Salt Lake on business BENJAMIK CLUFF left for the metropolis metrop-olis this morning J M EASTON the genial drummer was with us yesterday THE PBOVO East Coop closes on the 15th for stocktaking C TWELVES our rustling merchant went to the capital today THE SNOW fell to the depth of about two inches early this morning THE DISTRICT Court will open here on the 16th of this month Provo may then look for better times THE FIRM of Smoot S Co seems to have a large portion of the drug trade here as they are constantly replenishing replenish-ing their stock of goods SCOTT ANDERSON delivered a very in terestin temperance lecture in the Methodist church last evening which was very well attended and appreciatedr A GEUfD concert will be given for the benefit of the Provo Reading rooms in ClufFs Hall under the auspices of the district schools on Saturday evening next It is for a good cause and we hope will be a perfect success A LECTURE will be delivered by Prof K G Maeser in the Tabernacle under the auspices of the Sunday School Union next Tuesdav evening the 10th inst II Sunday School sketches will be the subject of the lecture ALMOST EVERY drummer who visits our berg is taken for a deputy marshal and causes some little excitement which soon blows over however on their being introduced and showing what and who they are Two NEW rooms have lately been fitted up the Brigham Young Academy for the better accommodation of the chemical and mathematical students as the rooms heretofore occupied by them were not of a large enough capacity capac-ity to give the pupils all a chance to perform experiments etc They will now have ample room and will be in much more convenient quarters A CHANGE has been made at the D R G office here this week Gid Wood who has held theposition as agent for several months has been removed to Spridgville to take charge of the station at that point Dan Phelan the freight agent and operator has been moved to Francklyn to take care i of the station there and Joel Ricks from Francklyn to Provo in Mr Woods place Gid has always al-ways been very accommodating in every instance and will be greatly missed by those who have had dealings with the D R G at this station We wish them all success at their new posts AT ABOUT 1030 oclock last night the nightwatchman at the East Coop discovered covered some fire dropping from an open flue near the coal oil room of the Coop and immediately summoned aid The sash and glass were broken out of the front door and the watchman watch-man and several others climbed in and put a stop to the wouldbe devouring element Had it not been seen just in time there might have been a very dangerous and destructive fire as the sparks once having caught the oily floor the building never could have been saved It was certainly a lucky thing it was discovered in time for all would be lost if a fire once got ai good start as our city has no waterworks with which to stay the progress of the terrible flames V ARA PROVO February 7th 18S5 |
