Show I Promoted WASHINGTON D C May Secretary Manning today requested the resignation resigna-tion of Col T A Burrough of the bureau pfjengraving and printing 0 Graves assistant treasurer of the United States has been appointed to fill the vacancy Graves entered the Treasury department 1863 at 1200 a year He served as chief clerk of thedepartment as superintendent of the National bank redemption agency and assistant treasurer treas-urer He was also made chief examiner of the civii service commission under President Grant and in 1877 was a member mem-ber of the commission appointed to reorganize re-organize the bureau of engraving and printing By this reorgqnization the expenses of the bureau were decreased several hundred thousand dollars The appointment is a promotion for Graves the salary being900 more per year than that of the assistant treasurer He voted for Mr Cleveland The bureau of engraving and printing Ms about 1200 employees but twelve of whom come under the civil service law Theyare appointed by the chief of the bureau 1 f |
