Show Street Strike N ew YORK April 17The first car on I the Third Avenue line left the depot at Is oclocc this morning and at noon twentyeight cars were running making I mak-ing trips Irom Harlem to Broume Street and return Policemen were aboard of each car and lined the route at regular intervals Their services however are not required as everything remained quiet and the strikers kept away from the avenue and depot AboutGOO men applied for work today in answer to the companies advertisements advertise-ments and man were engaged at once NEW YORK April 17 There isa deep bitter feeling among the strikers at the Third Avenue depot and trouble is feared The employment of unlicensed un-licensed drivers denounced bitterly as against the law The railroad company this < afternoon abandoned the attempt to run a car on the One Hundred and Twentyfifth Street road The cars on the Third Avenue road are to stop run at 5 oclock this afternoon It has not yet been definitely settled whether or I not the cars will be runto morrow It is feared that trouble will result if the conference between the railroad commission com-mission and the railroad company and the Empire Protective Association do not settle the difficulty About seventy new men were accepted today and they will be drilled tomorrow to-morrow in the depot No can will be run out tomorrow for prudential reasons rea-sons Some of the strikers today wore tth etrsdifies out an arrest warrant for the new drivers who have no license The president pre-sident of the road says the new employees em-ployees will not be discharged to make room lor the strikers in case a settlement settle-ment is reached |
