and sisters live so as to be prepared when your time arrives to go hence B shcp E T Baron said he had enjoyed intimate relations with Bishop Hardy for over thirty years the Isst ten years as assistant counsellors to the presiding bishop They had Leen as intimate as men could bein dud 1 civil and military milita-ry capacities and in Brother Hardys position associated with the presiding presid-ing bishopric There are associa tions that spring up in the membership member-ship of our church and kingdom of God that are closer and dearer than those cf the natural flesh Bishop Hardys icdomitable will and determination deter-mination would not permit him to relinquish his duties until Friday a week ago when he became very unwell On the contraryBrother Wm W Taylor was in the prime or life and usefulness and in his instance it seems hard to bear up under the providences of God but he doeth all things well To the sons of Bishop Hardy I would say continue in the footsteps of your faher whose word was his bond May hIs family as also that of Brother Wm W Taylor be Dlesse abundantly He could en dore all that had ceen said by the previous speakers Our meeting trgether i very similar to thoe which have been held for ages past In following fathers mothers bro thers sisters and friends to the I grave and would so continue until death was completely banished I pray that the Lord will bless and comfort the mourners and prepare them to look forward to the more glorious clay of promise Bloited are the dead that die in the Lord May God so help us that we may Jive and prepare for the record he ha made What can I say that will benefit the dead Nothing To his relatives 1 say continue faithful t o the commandments of God I have been acquainted with Wm W Taylor from his early child hood Upon his request I visited him a week ago yesterday and found him ill and saw him agaiu several imes until a few hours of his death le requested me tolay my hands on him and bless him May his family and friends emulate his virtues May the spirit of peace rest on us all nd may we so purity our live as to be enabled to heieafter meet tue virtuous dead Prest Jos F Smith spoke We have met for tne purpose of paying our jespec to two of our brethren who have pissed away fiom this life We have not came together to-gether mourn for the hope of our religion gives us too much to be jhankf for Notwithstanding this we regret the loss of their company and counsels in fact this is all that we have to regret about Our brethren whole remains are here are not dead their spirits continue to live but their bodies sleep Hence we do not need to mourn Sometimes we grieve because or alack a-lack of faith With the words of instruction and consolation written and before us we cannot do otherwise other-wise than acknowledge the hand o f God and say blessed be the Lord Bishop Leonard W Hardy had lived ripened years of maturity and in the ordinary course of nature it was Impossible for him to have rumalnec with us much longer Then sorely we have no came to mourn his departure de-parture and rest from his labors here Although he has parted from his earthly possessions for a time yet he has secured to himself and family a I claim upon eternity and a title to enjoy eternal life increase glory reward and happiness an eternity of JOYs In the premature depart ue of our brother William fay lor we will miss his labsra We would have desiredhad it so pleased Gd that he might have remained with ua the natural term of his life Gd will provide for the widow and fatherless and in due time they will have occasion to rejoice fat they departed a short perled before them I cannot feel to mourn for these deceased brethren breth-ren my symoa hies e tend to the families and friends who remain President George Q Cannon next spoke So much had been said that it seems almost superfluous superflu-ous to add any remarks On Wednesday Wed-nesday evening last President John faylor and Joseph F Smith and myself visited the residence of Brother Leonard W Hardy My feeiings were those of pleasure lilt is possible to have such in contemplating contem-plating = a man who bad parsed an unblemished life of nearly 79 years a man of integrity surrounded by every comfort and full of peace There was nothing in tha surround ings which could call for grief except the loss tc his family in the absence of one whom they had so long loved How shall I speak of him who has departed In his youth as it were A more per fect man considering his opportn nitlee I never knew Jthsn Wm W Taylor I cannot reconcile my feel ing to the Impression that if he could have ar used himself and exerted ex-erted a faith and desire to live he might have remained with us It seems that all have not the same bold upon this life there is an element ele-ment ot angelic goodness afcout some so that they do not cling to humanity Ihe old adage says They whom the Gods love die young And this seems to have been exemplified the death ofWm W Taylor There Is but one course left for u < and that is to acknowledge acknowl-edge the hand of God and ask that the power of His Spirit msy rest up on his family and friends that they may have peaceful consolation in this their hour ot trial President John Tarlnr Rairl he had nothing to say at this time I regarding our departed brethren and but very few words to address to the living for the consolation of the widows and children I wil say that there are better dys In fitire for them and God will bles thFin Amen The choir sang In the Sweet Bye and Bye
