Show < THE THEATRE f lena the Madcap aGrand Success Few pieces have ever been presented pres-ented in Salt Lake of more general interest than Lena the Madcap From first to last it is a series of amusing exciting and affecting situations the plot is well sustained throughout and while some of the events somewhat transcend the pale of probability the skillful skill-ful and pleasing manner in which it is done causes the improbability improb-ability encompassing the situation to temporarily disappear There never was a more striking persona tion of the kind on the boards of the Salt Lake theatre than that of the heroine by Katie Putnam the roystering unrestrained mischiev ious but yet goodhearted and mirthful tomboy found a faithful exponent in the lady who has already al-ready taken a firm hold upon our theatre goers and whose Engagement engage-ment they would gladly prolong if they could the applause and cheers with which her saMies of wit humor and repartee were greeted was in itself a sufficient testimonial while the interest which all manifested by their close attention in the more interesting < < i teresting portions of the piece was I observable by the silence which prevailed pre-vailed until the climax was reached and then the demonstrations of approval ap-proval were almost stormy Mr Boothby as Stupe the nigger servant also scored a triumph and received a full share of the plaudits of the spectators The other parts were well played and we are justified justi-fied in saying that there has rarely departed from the theatre a bettersatisfied audience audi-ence The piece will be repeated at the matinee this afternoon and in the evening U The Child of the Regiment closes the engagement |
