EXECUTIVE MANSION 8 am The slight fever which made its appearance ap-pearance between 8 and 10 pm but which subsided during the night is not noticeable this morning This febrile was due to local and temporary cause rather than to any great unfavorable change in the Presidents condition He is as well now as at the same hour yesterday yester-day morning and this taken into consideration consid-eration with the fact that he did not sleep eo well as on the previous night seems to indicate a train in his favor Executive Mansion 1130 mDr Boynton who has just come from the Presidents chamber attributes the sudden sud-den rise in the Presidents pulse and temperature tem-perature to some obstruction in the way of the free discharge of pus from the wound Symptoms of granulation were noticed along the track of the ball yesterday yester-day and it is possible that this healin g pr ocees is going on at the same point The chill mentioned in the official bulletin bul-letin commenced about 8 oclock and lasted until 9 being quite severe the pulse running up at one time to 130 At this hour the lever is said to be gradually disappearing and the patients condition is considered better than when the bulletin bulle-tin was issued At 7 this morning the President showed the usual morning symptoms of recovery but about 8 oclock he was attacked with something like a chill He shook all o er and his muscles all became rigid with what the doctors called u rigor This chilly shaking sensation Jasted until un-til 9 when the fever set in and rose rapidly His pulse went up to 130 and temperature to 101 In an hour or so the fever declined same The doctors are not yet able to define the cause of the change The flow of pus from the wound stopped this morning and the surgeons say this may have caused the change in the Presidents condition con-dition A lone drainage was substituted and doctors pressed on the stomach and bowels but very little pus exuded Whether this means that the wouad is healing between where the ball is and the mouth of the wound or that an abscess ab-scess is forming is not yet known Dr Bliss said just now that he could not tell the cause of the change Surgeons feel somewhat uneasy All four of the Presidents surgeons are now making an examination to see if they can determine the cause of the change in the condition The cabinet ministers all ware Hot for and have come to the White House There is a great deal of uneasiness in the city growing oat of the fact that nothing definite can yet be ascertained from the Burgeons At 1230 oclock surgeons made a par tial examination of the President but he seemed inslined to rest and they did not want to disturb him much The result of this examination as given by the surgeons sur-geons is that the condition is not anymore any-more favorable than several hours ago 10 order not to disturb the President no farther examination will be made until 7 pm Doctors are very reticent only saying that the change was probably caused by the stoppage of the discharge I from the wound They will not give any positive opinions but say they hope for the beet Executive Mansion 130 pmThe Presidents symptoms at this hour are a little more favorable than at the date of he last unofficial bulletin but his condi tion has not changed Attending surgeons sur-geons have just telegraphed Drs Hamilton Hamil-ton and Agnew to wires busy with sensational report They ai ar e unreliable J There has been no recurrence in yet of the unfavorable symptoms whch man ifested themselves in the earlier part of the day The President is now asleep and his pulse remains at about 100 It is the opinion of the attending surgeons that the chill and subsequent fever this morning Ws caused by the formation of a pus cavity at some point along the track of the bullet but this cannot be positively asserted until after the oven mg examination Dr Bliss has in his practice had cases where the formation of a pus cavity in a wound was followed bra br-a much severer chill and higher ever than the President has bad today and he says that it is net necessarily an alsroinr feature in a case of this kind 430 pmSecretary Blaine has just
