Show K45LKOAD SCHEMES GIBnttc Plans that are Being Itdtl and Utah laterests Chicago 2 1 InterOceans Omaha Oma-ha From a gentleman well known in railroad circles as the trusted agent of Jay Gould in his southwestern southwes-tern scheme of railroads I got today to-day the clearest and newest statement state-ment of the present state of operations opera-tions the fullest and most comprehensive description of the plan of this wonderful scheme of railroad developments yet published pub-lished Notably among these is the statement that an alliance has already al-ready been formed between the Texas Tex-as Pacific Goulds railroad the I Atlantic and Pacific controlled by the Nickerson interest in the A T I and S F R R and the Utah Southern South-ern and Union Pacific to form a junction i in the Parahanaget valley Nevada and unite in the building of a trunk line through from that point to San Francisco An opportunity has been afforded me to see documents from London containing informa tion that 25000000 worth of bonds for this trunk line had all been subscribed I sub-scribed and today a cipher telegram went through to New York announcing an-nouncing that the whole ground to San Francisco was now being pushed rapidly by engineers The correspondent then describes at length the southwestern system of 7000 miles costing for construction construc-tion alone 50000000 all to the Mexican cannections and to connections connec-tions with the southwest system in Texas and extensions are now building build-ing about seven miles per day allover all-over the southwest The system will be finished this year to Laredo The line from San Francisco to Texas is all covered with engineers and the moment it strikes El Paso they will commence laying steel Steel will be laid into Mexico Speaking more in detail it will be built as follows Into New Orleans about October 1st where it has bought immense terminal facilities in connection with the barge line The road to Lerado will probably get in during September and the Texas and Pacific into El Paso sometime some-time in December It is also proposed pro-posed to build a line from San Francisco east from the end of the Utah Southern west from the end of the Atlantic and Pacific northwest north-west and from the end of the Texas and Pacific northwest ail at once To build these California lines will take probably eighteen months or two years according to how fast material can be obtained It is calculated to complete this Mexican line to the City of Mexico inside of two years These routes are all constructed under the four j different construction and improvement improve-ment companies that build them for their actual cost and then turn them over to the companies The cost will average about S200JO a mile Gen G M Dodge is at the head of all these construction companies com-panies This system I suppose will have its own outlet by a system of extension about which nothing definite has yet been made known to the public but which I can explain ex-plain to you This system west of I the Rio Grande is an extension of the Texas Pacific from El Paso northwest through Silver City and Prescott or to the Rio Herers to a a connection with the Atlantic and Pacific These two routes ombined will then extend northwest north-west to the Parahanagat valley in Nevada where they are joined by an extension of the Utah Southern a branch of the Union Pacific and the three companies will build a trunk line from the Parahnagat valley passing near Owens Lake to the City of San Francisco Cal The line when completed will not only leave the Central Pacific system out in the cold but it will leave it without any outlet east and the U P will then have its independent inde-pendent line to the coast and a com peting line with the C P Yes but the Southern or Central Pacific is extending their system from El Paso south intending to connect with what is known as the Pierce system in Texas at San Antonia An-tonia They have bought the Pierce road from San Antonia to Houston the Terry road and the Adams road from Houston to Vermillionville paying about 54000 a mile for a road that cost only 20000 per mile That led them into New Orleans What effect do you think this vast plain of railroad development completed com-pleted will have on the commerce of the country and the growth of the trade centres r Well I think there is no doubt but what the whole wheat and grain crop of everything ev-erything west of the Missouri river will find am outlet at New 1 Orleans We expect to take the grain every bushel of grain that is raised in California even the north line to New Orleans and to ship from there to Europe It can be done within sixty days The land haul Is not so long as it is today from here to New York and there is the finest harbor on the gulf at New Orleans It takes six months to go around the horn and how many bushels of grain do you think will go that way when it can be sent right through to New Orleans |
