Show Suicide The shocking news of the suicide of 0 N Gillett was received by the relatives of the unfortunate man in this city early on Wednesday morn ing Two or three daya ago a notice was published in the HELD containing con-taining a description of Mr Gillett announcing his mysterious disappearance disappear-ance and soliciting infcrmation ua to his whereabouts However nothing was heard from him until yesterday a stated above Between 1 and 12 oclock on the night of the 19th deceased left hid home at Rockport Summit County and came to this city for the purpose of attending to some land matters He bad been annoyed for some time past over his preemption and homestead entries and feared that other parties were trying to deprive him of bis land Arriving here on Tuesday evening 20th having walked tho entire distance dis-tance he remained at the residence of his mother that night On Wednesday morning he called upon attorney placing his land matters in tne lawyer nuncs i was observed ob-served by friends that his troubles threatened his reason with dcatruc lion and an effort was made to quiet his nerves and put his mind at rest i After dinner at hu mothers on I Wtdnecday he started towards Main street after which he was not teen alive by anyone who knew him Last Tuesday evening his dead body was found in a field near Mill Creek by Peter Chambers who at once notified parties residing in the vicinity and yesterday morning brought tho sad news to the distressed family in Silt Lake It was unquestionably a case cf euicide and probably occurred a week ago The jugular was severed tho knife the property deceased with which the deed was dons lying by biB side His papers and money were in his pockets undisturbed un-disturbed the former leading to his identification by too discovery of the body I is thought that he hid started back to Weber and becoming cxaaustcd from wandering about on the bench resolved to put an end to his sufferings of body and mind but everything is conjecture save the fact of the selfdestruction I Justico Snedeker of Mill Creek summoned a jury and held an inquest I yesterday morning tho verdict being suicide during temporary Insanity i i Tno body was brought to this city to await tho answer from Rockport of I the family of deceased Mr Gillett leaves a wile and four I children an aged mother and other relatives most of whom are residents of Salt Lake city |
