Show A Curiosity At Grays saloon east of Godbes is something of a curiosity in the way of mechanism it being the work of a man named Rose formerly for-merly a member of the Fourteenth Infantry band but now residing in this city The work is a complete and as nearly as possible perfect representation rep-resentation of an execution by hang ing all ensconsed in a bottle seven inches long and three inches in width The figures inside are of wood the scaffold occupies the entire diameter of the bottle and upon it are the gallows surmounted by a rooster pendant from the beam being the culprit suspended by the neck through the opening made by the fallen trap i his wife and a child stand on one corner weeping a minister is near by while three soldiers and the hangman hang-man occupy different positions The neck of the bottle which is not over twothirds of an inch in diameter diam-eter is stopped with a cork of wood through the bottom of which runs a key twice as long as the width of the neck and so secured that it cannot be moved without breaking the bottle The fact that the vessel is perfectly sound and that therefore all this mechanism had to be arranged through the neckwhich was afterwards closed up in the mysterious manner stated shows ingenuity of the highest class It is worth seeing |
