Show t f t tj j THE CLERKS in the departments I 11 f at Washington are a terribly overworked over-worked lot of fellows They acfcu I ally have to be at their desks five not complaining hours a day They are 1 I j 1 f i plaining of overwork but are very j much alarmed over the prospect of i i 11 J having to put in time like other + I people who labor for their bread r h j j There is a provision in the appropriation appro-priation bill requiring eight hours as a days work and the clerks are said to be buttonholing congressmen I J congress-men to defeat the provision In ti i other and plainer words they are i lobbying against the best interests fj j of government If these men can i find time to lobby against their employer c 1 em-ployer it is pretty good evidence I k I that they are not worked hard i 1 enough There are thousands of Qi i honest capable persons who would f be only too glad to take the places I J and pay of these grumbling clerks f A and work eight hours a day |
